They only want it to fail because the game that theyve lived in for so many years has undergone a huge change. The change has inflicted a massive amount of butthurt and theyll always be affected by it no matter the amount of positive aspects that result from it.
Ive been here for 18 years…and i always welcome change in this and any game i play if its designed to bring in new blood by any means that it can. We all know it takes quite a while for changes to settle in and create routines. Nobody is patient enough for that anymore. First days of a release is automatic doomsday.
Sure, there are issues. Im pretty sure that reports have been sent and things will be fixed and adjusted. It never happens on the first days…never…in any game.
After 23 years here, I have not mistaken longevity for wisdom. A game that wants to survive must bring in new blood, and if a well-designed change accomplishes that, I will support it, even if the old guard has to briefly suffer the horror of adaptation.
Let me clarify: Excretium sucks, and I think players should leave 1.0 space ASAP. If the lack of content (or stupid content) happens to be forcing players to leave - I don’t think that’s necessarily a good plan (or working as intended).
It absolutely trumps all the wild rumors of people farming in there 24/7 doesnt it.
Hell you should be happy about the zone having just what it needs to deliver to newbros and then them leaving. What content is it you think it needs for it to be better? If they add it then that means players will stay longer…again contradiction what you think should be happening.
LIke i told a few others…if you think the zone is so bad, then stay out of there. Its not for you. Its not designed for you, me, or any other long term player. If you do decide to cruise through there…then talk and teach the newbros. Put in the work that it will take to make the zone work. Convince them to stay and persevere through the rough transitions.
That’s what I’m doing. I might be interested in trying the new epic arc once they fix the bugs, but other than that, there’s no reason for me to go there.
I think I share @Christine_Creed 's opinion, in that change is sometimes both necessary and healthy if it means that EVE stays relevant in the game industry. I’ve been here almost 17 years, and I’d be happy if EVE survives for another 20, 30, or more (cue FC Hellmar chanting “EVE Forever”). Over the last two decades, I’ve never been resistant to changes in EVE, as long as they made sense for the game. I’ve even criticized CCP/FC on occasion for being too conservative and slow to adapt.
All that said, I have to admit that so far, I’ve been disappointed with the Cradle of War expansion, more so than with other recent expansions (some of which I also found disappointing). Granted, it’s early days yet, and we’ll see how things evolve over the remainder of the year. But when I read the list of known issues and hear the copious bug reports (including the new epic arc being broken on release after it was hyped to such a degree), I can’t help but come away feeling this expansion was half-baked and largely untested. I think that’s what I find most disappointing. It seems years now since we’ve had an expansion that wasn’t borked to one degree or another.
The design intent was relayed fairly explicitly in both the dev blog and in subsequent dev streams, and what you’re saying indicates that the execution matches the intent. It’s a place to learn, not a place to live.
