Weird Coincidence?

Something happened last night I do not understand. Perhaps one of you can help me figure it out. Last night I am flying an interceptor for FW through Placid and Black Rise. I am in Avoinen area doing Inty plexes when fleet is calling for Hikkonen BF.

Perhaps relevant here is the fact that my game was being a bit buggy at one point. Grouping was only shooting 1 of 3 guns and I had to clear group, offline and online again to make it work.

Anyways I decide to make my way to Hikkonen for BF fleet when I arrive at gate and realize my Inty cannot get in. So I jump back to Nenamaila (only nearby system where I can dock) to try and reship. Wiyrikomi Reace Corps Station. Nothing is really obvious and pickings seem pretty slim…

When suddenly, a part of the new player experience starts up. I skipped all this a month ago, but at that exact moment Aura starts talking to Iris about how AIR wants to gift me a new ship. They give me a Catalyst, 1 plex which is used on a skin. Even more weird – I am a pure Inty pilot and don’t even have destroyers trained… But now I suddenly do. And I discover after my skill queue is paused. Anyway I am sure that’s part of the tutorial sequence somehow.

But the VERY weird part is the timing. How did it happen that this part of the new player experience happened right at the exact time I needed a ship?

So I strip the fitting from my taranis, fit the catalyst. Add a few extra guns from market and head over to finish off the BF for 100k+ LP.

What happened here? What triggered this? Anyway Thanks EVE gods.

Angels do exist, we just don’t notice their work. Sometimes it is the helpful stranger who has battery cables when your car won’t start, the random dog or cat that jumps out of the bushes making you avoid a collision with a truck, or sometimes it is the buggy video game suddenly gifting you rewards when you need them the most. They get chalked up to randomness of the universe, but everyone knows there is nothing random about the universe, everything is planned out in advance.

It’s part of the tutorial which just happens “naturally” as long as you followed through on the tutorial and career agents. It trains you to destroyer lvl 2 (I believe), gifts you one and you get to go through the whole girl boss yapping, being gifted 1 plex and “go buy the 1 plex skin”. If you didn’t complete the tutorial and career stuff then it will trigger at some random moment.

This is why for new characters I don’t train ship skills initially, just weaponry or related stuff, because you get frigate 3 and destroyer 2 for free.

Ive had that tutorial break up a session where Im doing other things. Most times it wasnt fortuitous but annoying to stop and go through it instead of getting on with what I was trying to do.

This is a crucial tutorial for CCP, because it teaches new players how to open the NES.
