What do you think would bring eve into a new golden age

I like the Orca the way it is because it can do so many things it was never designed for! :smirk:

I have an Orca for sale:

Never taken any structure damage, only ejected from once.

Thank you for your kind offer. At this point, I have more than I need. Plus 1 spare. None fit for wh space anymore.

  1. Make a real effort to teach new players not to fly anything you can not afford to lose.
  2. Improve insurance system, fex. applies only in high-sec and includes cargo.

This has to be bait. I sometimes envy industrialist players for being able to fly these wonderfully no-nonsense blue collar juggernauts.

As consolation, I still get to fly Caldari haulers - best looking haulers in the game in my opinion. But I have a thing for grey bricks (classic 70’s spaceship design) and stuff that looks like actual ships.

I agree that Insurance should be

  • much cheaper and simpler
  • cover more of the actual loss (but still only the hull, fit can easily be market manipulated)

but

  • only pay out for losses in HighSec
  • only pay out if you were aggressed illegaly

If you want to include cargo, you would have to make sure that the cargo cannot be changed during the whole period of insurance, which is probably impossible to achieve. And not really desired imho, since you could easily abuse it via price manipulation of rare items.

I agree. I wierdly think that the old Caldari haulers are even better!

So, after almost 600 replies, is already clear what the last golden age was and what the main differences were to what we have now?

The last golden age was when you started playing, give or take an expansion. The main differences to now are whatever changes happened in the meantime, except the one or two that you actually liked.

Has anyone suggested a playable alien species yet? I mean it is supposed to be several thousands of years in the future and no aliens? Sad, if it is just us humans, and should that be true, maybe the Amarrian God did give them the universe? Maybe all those objects we keep shooting down over the past month are just more Chinese weather balloons? I bet CCP wouldn’t even make the aliens look cool anyways, probably just reskin a mess of human models.

This isn’t why they left at all. They left because the fun and engaging content they had got nerfed into the ground with nothing to replace it. 10 years ago you could pay multiple subs with all kinds of PvP activities which is what a lot of the hardcore players were doing back then. Once the safety system came out (and incursions, quadrupling the cost of plex) the bleed began. More nerfs to emergent PvP gameplay came and with every one we had less of the folks who actually created most of the content. Folks are still clamoring for even MORE of these nerfs even today.

CCP could’ve not touched/patched the game for 10 years and we’d have a bigger playerbase and a healthier economy than we do now. There was quite-simply THAT much player driven content back then.

That said, this game will never return to a golden age. It’s actually dead as we speak, there’s just a few of you left who have yet to realize it and CCP is milking you and you’re all still crying for more PvP nerfs. Guess what, the PvP is already nerfed, it didn’t make the game any better.

The null blocs will never be broken because all the people that know enough about PvP mechanics to break them have left. No amount of resource redistribution will fix manufacturing because the destruction isn’t there. All the players that caused that destruction in the past are long gone. There’s no hope with retaining new players because the content that new players join eve for (epic space battles) no longer exist in any sort of accessible capacity. Furthermore, Eve’s target market (hardcore-survival-sandbox-PvP crowd) has been nerfed out of the game so when a new player comes who actually might stick around (hardcore-survival-sandbox-PvP player), they’re met with a giant carebear-hand-holding simulator and quit in disgust.

Time to move on and play Albion while it’s still dangerous, there’s still a few years of life left in that game (though it’s doomed to meet the same fate as Eve since a mobile company bought it and are making damn near the exact same mistakes Eve made to kill their game. IE: making everything too safe).

Well, I’m not really one to defend CCP. But by ā€œa few of youā€ I guess you mean ā€œ150,000 or so playersā€ and ā€œ20,000 online at a timeā€ - which still beats half the MMOs out there.

And by ā€œmilking youā€ you must mean ā€œmost of you are playing for free anywayā€.

And as far as crying goes, you’ve done nothing but pop up every couple weeks to bawl in your beer because CCP took jetcan-flipping and safe hunting of nubs in highsec away from you.

There’s a lot of buzzwords the ā€œI need safe easy PVP targets handed to me by CCP or I can’t play!ā€ crowd use, but the primary one is ā€œcontent creatorsā€, followed by ā€œthe safety system ruined EVEā€.

Pro tip for ya: shooting weak targets in high sec isn’t ā€œcontent creationā€. It’s just ego-fapping for lazy trolls who can’t be bothered taking the time to get in a real fight.

2 decades in, perhaps it is time to move on past EVE. Although some of us spend our time trying to improve EVE’s chances, rather than bawling about ā€œthe good ol’ days, when shooting miners was easy - and safeā€.

So yea, for the rest of you who are wondering. This kind of entitled attitude is what killed the game. Anyhoo, see y’all in another month or two when I decide to check in on the state of Eve’s death.

You use a lot of buzzwords instead of actually thinking, in your posts.

ā€œEntitledā€ is one of them. It doesn’t mean what you seem to think it means.

But no time to educate you, I’m too busy noticing that the dead, 2-decade old EVE Online is currently running about twice as many players as Albion Online…

(PS: If you’re gonna beg for players to come join you in another game, you should be a bit more up-front about it. Ninja begging is kinda low-class.)

PvP is bullying. CCP is just getting with the times by implementing highly-demanded progressive values to the game.

Besides, if you want PvP, shouldn’t you be going to null-sec to fight other like-minded players? That’s where the REAL PvPers live, you know.

Amarr for tank, minny for speed… calderi for looks?

I know what you mean, there is that Star Trek Online, it has a following of about half the population of Eve Online. I am basing this on Steam Charts data since the other game won’t reveal the rest of their people. It’s not like Eve Online is hiding the total population from us.

Star Wars and Star Trek are movie IPs, they shouldn’t be falling behind an original IP without so much as a book or movie fan base to build upon. Eve Online keeping up with Star Wars and ahead of Star Trek is something of a badge of honor.

Huh, that’s weird. Must have hallucinated all the great PvP fun I’ve been having doing risky exploration, hunting in wormholes and going on whaling fleets.

There’s no hope with retaining new players because the content that new players join eve for (epic space battles) no longer exist in any sort of accessible capacity.

This isn’t why I joined and I couldn’t care less about epic slow mo F1-fests except in a ā€œit’s cool it’s possible in this universe and creates its large scale historyā€ kind of way. I love the freedom and the danger but null blocs arent the only playstyle out there (I prefer wormholes). Lowsec has been all the rage recently and I’m seeing a lot of fights whenever I pass through.

Been playing on and off since 2012, haven’t noticed there being any less danger in lowsec or j-space. The population is a bit sparser, but what exactly changed in the mechanics to make the space that is supposed to be dangerous less dangerous, in your opinion? Highsec might be somewhat safer, but that’s why I don’t play in highsec. Nullsec is too safe for the crabbers, but that’s been a complaint since as long as I remember.

Anyhoo, see y’all in another month or two when I decide to check in on the state of Eve’s death.

So you intend to torture yourself and the rest of us with your whining regularly? Why? The game has seen better days and I understand why many people left over Scarcity, but the fact you can’t comprehend that people can find content outside of null blobs is entirely on you.

I can’t seem to find the quote from Hilmar that said, ā€œeve grew to fastā€?

Thought I had it saved…

For all its faults when the game was growing back then. Good question is what would have happened if nothing changed at the time of peak growth rate?

Where would the game be now?

Edit; Lost my Vet tag! Time to post another ā– ā– ā– ā–  thd to get it back.
