What does an ESI check return?

I have been doing a great deal of reading about the now deprecated ASI checks and the new ESI checks certain player corps require. Mainly because the idea of a check is unique to EVE.

The only thing I haven’t been able to pin down is whether or not the check is strictly IN-GAME information. I.E., real life personal account info (email, billing details, etc.) is still inaccessible regardless of whether or not a corp has the ESI info on an account.

They can see almost anything you can see from inside the game client window, but nothing else. Your login details, email, etc, are not revealed.

When you authorize an ESI application, you can see exactly what information you are exposing. For example, try logging in to https://zkillboard.com/

Most player corps are so lazy that they just demand a full ESI key. Applicants seem eager to hand it over, too.
