When I bring out my Orca, it’s for fleet mining with my corp. I boost them, they throw all their ore into the Orca, then I do a cost assessment through EVEpraisal or Janice and split the profit between them. After that, the ore is mine to do with as I please.
So in our fleet operations it’s fairly straight forward. The fleet is scheduled for a time frame (usually 2-3 hours) Everyone is payed out by hour, this payout is based on their skill level/ship operating. Everyone benefits from everyone’s investment. We make more with the Orca, so the Orca gets paid, just like the hauler, same as the security. The corp takes a percentage off the top for fuel/boost costs… the rest, every pilot that invests their time, takes a proportional cut for it. It takes a little tracking on spread sheet sure, but that’s just eve. It’s basically time cards, and dividing the total mined at the close of the fleet opp.
Even with the new changes, it only reinforced this for our corp. The Orca can’t mine ‘equally’, but it’s not supposed to. It’s a force multiplier, it makes everyone else mine more. So it gets paid for doing so. The only reason we have to use the Orca is for this purpose, otherwise there’s better options for solo or small/risky groups.
When/where we make this call is also straight forward. The orca boosts are lets say 30% (i get better but depends on skills). So every 3-4 exhumers we basically add another one in boosts (duration savings). now add the consideration of ore hold and hauling etc. If we’re going more than 3 jumps to deposit ore then 2 exhumers make an orca viable in time savings and boosts. If we’re mining in system and dropping there. It’s more viable to run more exhumers, 3-4, before the orca really makes any impact on time savings for it’s hold and boosts. We’ve never really considered the Orca as a mining platform itself. It’s more realistic to just leave the orca with combat drones for the rats, then having the barges stop, recall, deploy and repeat. Not like the orca is busy doing much else.
Our Orca pilot is still part of the team and a critical part too. That means he gets an equal cut of the profits. Usually when we mine as a corp it’s towards a common goal that benefits everyone so no one gets paid ISK. It’s all about the greater good rather than individual profits.
If it’s a un-official mining op just for the people mining then everyone gets an equal cut, they all have a job to do be it mining or providing boosts.
Agreed I ALWAYS boosted fellow miners corp or not. Too bad the greedy gankers have to pod miners part of the game sure it is but podding a miner really sucks when you lose 60 million in implants and made nothing that day. ah well can not do a thing nor will ccp
