What Happened to Zarzakh?

Not really sure where to post this because this covers a wide range of topics but figured since I’m just coming back to the game I might as well as here to see if anyone has any insight.

I took about a 5 year break so I wasn’t around when Pirate Faction warfare started. So when I came back I decided I wanted to try it out. Did some research. Found out about Zarzakh and fell in love with the concept of a Pirate neutral hub and like a black market type deal for Pirates to meet up and trade and all that fun stuff. Sort of like a pirate Jita (Especially since now that I’m a Gurista Faction warfare person the Caldari keep threatening me every time I fly into their systems.)

Only I’m finding out the market is kind of dead. There is rarely enough stuff to fit out a full ship and I’ve tried hauling some stuff in myself to put on the market and nothing really sells or moves that I can see.

I’ve read a few places that Zarzakh is kind of dead and I can’t for the life of me figure out why. It seem like such a cool concept and lore system.

Does anyone know? What are the chances of getting this place up and running again like the true hive of scum and villainy it’s supposed to be?

zarzark is probably too far away and inconvenient to be used as a pirate trade hub. from what i’ve seen in the amarr-minmatar warzone, amamake and turnur are bigger trade hubs. people can put down structures there and mass manufacture, research and refine. also it’s not just pirates trading there, but also militia pilots and neutrals as well. those systems are also more accessible from high sec than zarzakh, which brings down hauling costs.

I like it when it happens that the playerbase rejects game design and does their thing with the sandbox instead…

Isn’t like it wasn’t predicted right from the start.

I remember statements from day one when the concept was announced: “Thousands of wasted dev hours for something that at best will attract two handful of people and will sink into complete irrelevance soon.”

It simply offers no interesting group content that would attract significant numbers of players to settle there. Which leads to no significant numbers of customers being present there. Which leads to the situation that you only go there to get some blueprints or materials you can make money with, but move them to some location where you can do the actual business. And that size of business (aka number of people doing it) is so low, that not even the effort to dominate control over Zarzakh 24/7 is worth any groups time.

Pretty sure after CCP stopped people abusing it as a galactic short cut it fell into irrelevance.
