Japanese enka, not sure why I love this stuff. My friends in Japan weren’t sure either, considering I was American and also under 65 years old. But:
-Syrupy melodramatic lyrics, always about some tragically busted up romance.
-Full orchestra, with Fender Stratocaster getting the leads parts. (Always a Strat, and the intro to any enka song always the same).
-Serious hardcore vocal crooning, with some more hammy melodrama in the performance.
-Goes well with drinking bar well scotch and singing karaoke with cool crusty old hipster ladies and gents.
