When did Black Ops lose the 100% shield bonus?

Looks like you’ve found the best ship for your use-case then!

With the apoc navy I’ve also found mine, although the Machariel also is a good contender.

It’s really boring in anything other than a Marauder, to be honest. It takes 2-3x longer in a T3C or Faction battleship - and I’m not necessarily gaining any degree of safety.

Like I said, FC gives us lots of “toys” to play with - but only a few that are really well-suited for any particular sandbox.

Then I don’t get why you seem to be dissatisfied constantly with your choice? Like every week I see some complaint and suggestion about “give marauders this, let them do that, their nerfs sucks they need to be buffed…”. Why? They are already #1, there is absolutely zero nessessity to make them better, stronger, more mobile or more convenient. Zero. They overshadow everything else in Performance already. So why the constant attempts to argue for “buff” then?

That’s always going to be the case.

You have lots of tools. And for every specific use-case only a few of those tools will be ‘the best’.

That’s not because there is variety in ships for your use-case, but because there is much variety in use-cases and up to you to pick the right tool.

And you’ve figured out Marauders are the best for your use-case. That’s good, this means Marauders are good!

You could do the content a bit slower and cheaper, or slower and safer, or slower but without the downside of the bastion. But you choose to have the big dps boost of the bastion with the drawbacks that come with it. Which is a viable choice, but not the only choice.

Marauders are your favourite choice, so like Syzygium I don’t understand why you’re dissatisfied with them.

I had the best ship, but CCP nerfed it.
• I was away on an extended break so I never got to enjoy the 30-second “bastion”, so that loss never really impacted me.
• Losing the armor bonus and warp speed bonus actually resulted in a >1.0 AU/s loss in speed because I had to replace the hyperspacial rig with a trimark and still ended up with less EHP.
• Losing the MJD bonus wasn’t a huge deal either as I only used it in a handful of scenarios and shifted to using Spike ammunition to compensate.
• Losing part of the armor repair bonus wasn’t a huge deal either as my Kronos was always overtanked. And the cycle time/capacitor offset most of this.
• A big nerf was losing basically all the tracking buffs to large railguns. I’ve learned to compensate for this as well but it still gimped my “power outage” fit.
• We got some perks with the Faction bastion modules, but they’re stupid expensive and a mixed bag of snakes (more DPS but less tank/range, etc.)

Because every 3-6 months they gimp my fit to the point where I need to theory craft a new one. It’s why I’ve gone on 3 extended breaks over the past 5 years - not because I’m bored, because I get fed up with CCP (now FC) continually fscking around with everything based on some obscure use some null-sec, wormhole or Pochven group has decided to exploit.

It would be different if they introduced new types of contents for players like me or different opportunities to earn income.

It’s still the best ship, is it not?

You said you don’t see a better alternative. That makes them still the top tier pick.

The only reason you’re dissatisfied isn’t because of it’s performance, but because you’re dwelling on the past.

Jeez…how many times did they nerf my beloved Tengu.

I still use it today just as well as before. Its took a few re-adjustments but the ship is still an amazing L4 mission runner.

If I was just coming into EVE I probably wouldn’t be jaded. It’s kind of hard to forget what was when you’re continuously reminded of what was nerfed every time you undock.

I guess most Rorqual and carrier pilots probably feel the same way…

Many Rorqual pilots seem to have the same issue indeed. Others seem to use their Rorquals just fine though.

Personally I prefer a better balanced game where my ship is less strong over a worse balanced game where my ship is overpowered. Better ship balance and better variety makes a good game for me, not my personal performance carried by a single overpowered ship. I find the second opinion a bit selfish.

You made3 me think…

Why FC (or would be better to call them FNR to not mix it with Fleet-Commander - FC?) So, FNR in theory, could make use of various system-wide atmospheric nerfs, just for some of the most problematic systems in their eyes, whilst leaving most ships more “equally balanced” for longer periods of time… afterall it’s just a switch in the “equalization” process experiment like another… but I feel you…
Having to decide to sell a ship for another (bc money isn’t always infinite)
and then one week later seeing the new ship being nerfed into oblivion too isn’t funny nor entertaining at all…

So I’d call it. Next time. Plz. FNR. Try use Atmospheric nerfs, even region-wide… so it’s affecting only those BLOPS and other mysterious Null-sec operatives you’re trying so hard to balance out…

I would prefer a game where they focused the R&D on improving the core game instead of all these side projects that are going to (most likely) die on release. I can’t help but think what interesting gems $50m USD invested in EVE would’ve led to…

There’s already talk on Discord of a “major ship rebalance” in the next major expansion. I’m already dreading Fall…

Ship rebalance?

I don’t know of any particular subcaps in null sec that need balancing at the moment, but maybe they’re looking at more capital ship balances. Carriers still aren’t in a great spot. Or faction warfare ship performances perhaps.

Ah, the only null sec subcap I can think of is the Vexor spam that can take down keepstars. That might require some balancing.

Yes, per the official EVE Discord - the Fall expansion will see a major ship rebalance. They haven’t really hinted at anything specific, and I haven’t figured out how to participate as anything other than an observer. So there’s just a few dev posts and a fair amount of discussion from other users.

EvE has been built with a Pyramidal structure from its inception…
Titans at the top, civilians in the bottom (Alpha now)
So it’s a dangerous thought that of reshaping a perfect Pyramid
into something else, that might collapse at the first Earthquake,
even bc new Engineers have forgot the older technique’s that
were employed in that original Blueprint…

I’m more in the vibe of R&D new Incursion, Pve missions, PvP contests,
and better risk/reward system (my famous market threshold red button, or the different Automatic Orbital variations, new Drone tactics, and maybe a voicecom built-in… just to name a few).

I don’t even know what the point is you’re trying to make there.

As far as I’m concerned a game which does regular balance passes to achieve a better balance while meta changes is good for a game to increase variety of strategies and viable options.

Sure, but if my ship hull weighs 1.7M Ton, and it has only 12K EHP,
and it’s also a T2 ship… someone is breaking basics physics laws
to achieve that “meta” or “balance”, and somewhere on the road,
there must be a tavern, to stop by, just to remind yourself you’re
still in the same Universe as it started, and not in a new one, where
the OG laws ( aka Blueprint, or Pyramidal structure) still exist.

Clearer now?

There is nothing in this game that says a ship of a certain weight should have a certain amount of EHP.

While EHP and ship weight are often related to ship size there is a lot of variety for gameplay reasons in those categories. Some ships have far less EHP than others, such as bombers which are glass cannon frigates, while others have more EHP from the start. And weight likewise, I think bombers weigh almost as much as two Asteros, even though both are small frigates.

So if you let go of the idea that EHP and weight must be related, what are they related to?

Clearly the EHP and weight values they have are chosen to fit the ship roles.

And Marauders have a role of a solo ship with incredible active sustain and dps. It’s not a high EHP ship and doesn’t need to be for it’s role. In fact, it should not be a high EHP ship in order for it to fill it’s role well and not overshadow other ships in other roles.

They don’t perform well as a solo ship if they get caught, though. The Golem probably fares the best. Every other Marauder will be hard-pressed to hit anything larger than a battlecruiser.

I think Marauders perform far better than most other solo subcaps when they get caught.

It takes considerable effort to take down a well-fit Marauder.
