Does anyone know why sov.space is down and now links to some gambling site?

This is the correct answer. Sov.space has never directly hosted the map, it just had hotlinks to the relevant evergreen image files. Which made it very handy to use, as the canonical URL for those files was a bit obtuse in the EVE-Files days (2007 to 2017), but it’s not the true home of the sov map.
For the last 8 years, the map and the archives have been hosted at my own website, https://www.verite.space. The front page there has the same style layout - just without the catchy and alliterative domain name. So for your map-viewing needs, it should work just as well.
