They said there is story, not that it’s great or anything.
I think Events are supposed to be like campaigns.
There are quite a few: Zeara, Syzygium, Gerard, LordOdysseus, Yole…
EVE Online is my story, happens what happens.
That’s so 90’s…
Man, if that’s the case these are the most horribly thought-out campaigns in gaming history. What exactly was the “payoff” in the Drifter Crisis? A few wormhole systems got renamed…?
I don’t know, Arthur, that’s the way I think of them but it may not necessarily be so. And I don’t think MMOs are supposed to have campaigns.
I imagine some would say fun or the action. I haven’t participated in an event yet so I can’t answer the question intelligently, but a game’s campaign doesn’t always have to great payoffs to be a campaign. Some campaigns are for learning purposes - we could say the Tutorial is a form of campaign - and others are designed to offer a single-player experience to a multiplayer game. Payoffs also depend on the kind of game.
Wasn’t fun - zero action. Payoffs were pretty horrible (both the loot and rewards). I mean, who doesn’t love skill points - but couldn’t we try for something a tad more creative?
Running the various events to collect components to build a Drifter prototype ship? That would’ve been cool.
Its difficult to tell a good story with a video game and i dont believe its in high demand. A game that did it well was Warcraft III but nobody remembers it for that i think.
Warcraft’s single player mode was great, I’ve played that campaign many times over the years. Never really played the multiplayer aspect of it, but loved the single player part.
Many single player games have good story telling, I’d say many of the best single player games are those with good storytelling. Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, Baldur’s Gate 3 are some of my favourites, all with great storytelling.
EVE however isn’t a single player game, it’s an MMO about player interaction and the story is written by players.
you not playing is also creating your own story…of be nothing
The story written by players is mostly boring. Hey, I would know…
Not all players are equal though.
Fair point. I suspect I’m in the majority (uninteresting) than the minority (interesting).
This is why I like reading about and watching videos of what other people do, sometimes you can find fun stuff even if you yourself currently do nothing exciting.
Just to play the Devil’s advocate, what was the real thrill you had in the game?
…have you really not had any fun in this game?
PvP (usually as a result of suspect baiting, shooting someone’s MTU, stealing their stuff, or activating a killright on them).
No story?!
Rose Ivory was born into wealth, one of the wealthiest of Luminaire families, she never experienced anything she needed or desired. Her father was very close and nicknamed her his little “princess”. One day, while walking through her flower garden on Corufeu, she was summoned by her mother to meet her on the station over at the Federal Administration Offices near the barren planet of Tanet. On the shuttle her pilot attempted to kill her, but failed when he fell against an exposed flux coil conduit. Rose realized, almost immediately, this was her mother attempting to take over the remaining wealth of her deceased father’s estate. Possessing her father’s fifty percent and passing the attack off as an simple accident, she moved away from her home on Corufeu. She joined the AIR capsuleer program, started a new corporation P.R.I.C.E. and took up a new life mission. To become the Princess and make her mother pay the price for her actions.
In her travels, Princess Ivory found more than a friend in Rosie Ember. Rising from the ashes of slavery and poverty, this new sister would stand beside her as an equal. Rosie Ember is a rights activist, and one of the foremost leaders and strategists of the campaign for the Minmatar Republic. She was approached by Princess Rose Ivory of the Gallente Federation and appointed the second princess of the known universe. She is a bit overwhelmed by her title but realizes the power behind P.R.I.C.E. and what benefits the corporation could achieve for the good of the people. Her life is a real rags to riches story. In her own words, “If the shoe fits, wear it.”.
As the department head in charge of cryonic research, Dr. Coma was forced to seek funding elsewhere when the government cut her budget. While she was seeking ways to prolong and improve life of her fellow Amarrians. The government planned to abuse her cryonic research as an alternative to housing slaves. She found funding with the oddest of investors. The women from opposing factions requested her to join their inner-circle called P.R.I.C.E. and become the third “princess” of the galaxy. With the unlimited access to medical and science facilities, Dr. Coma continues her research. Currently developing new and highly unstable filaments to explore other layers of subspace.
Their adventures continue…
Have fun!
Everywhere around you.
Well, granted most are gone, but had a lot and you can still be lucky to meet one here and there, helps if you are yourself interesting.
If you haven’t quit yet, yours is still ongoing.
Sadly they deleted old Auro, will agree new one just plain sucks.
We have way too many cut scenes, would love to get rid of the docking, pelx purchase and all the other ■■■■ again.
Because you have some very weird idea about what an early web-site game felt like.
Eve is a good example on how players can make and maintain thousands of stories indeed.
Your far less dangerous than I solo. Up your game.
I miss more worthwhile targets.
