Wormhole with no signature?

Found it because drifter was sitting on it lead to NS ? There is no signature for it.

NGL, I’d be going right back through that b*tch ASAP, then figure out what’s going on.

Was it a 162 on the screenshot end? Maybe you opened a new wormhole and the server took its sweet time generating the sig?

Or its something that needs a F12 bug report.

Though as someone who spends a lot of time in wormholes, I’d be going back through that and writing off that entire chain if it didn’t have a sig.

It was k162. I just checked its regular N432 wh type that opens up from NS side. The signature did spawn on wormhole side when i jumped back to wormhole from NS.
My guess is, the game already places the wormhole entrances. Exit signature wont show up unless a player from other side scans it down and warps to it. But drifters can already warp to it.

There was already one other WH in the system. Drifter initially warped to it, had my scout on it and then warped off the empty space at first glance.

When a sig is scanned down (maybe when it spawns, I’m not sure), the exit will automatically spawn a certain time later if no one warps to the wormhole. Keeps people from rolling all their statics and locking down their systems for days, like we used to.

But, if that timer hasn’t already passed, and no one had been in the exit system since DT, I can see it taking a bit to register the sig on the probe scanner.

Hmm it did lead to middle goons space. 6 ppl in local WH N432 has 24hr lifetime which 8hrs of it should be safe if you don’t warp to it. . I find it highly unlikely no one didn’t scan that system for 8hrs straight. unless everyone just didn’t bother warping to it?

Nvm did more checking around drifters can fly to unspawned whs.

ok, this is not at all uncommon.
what you found is known as a Ghost Hole.
When any wormhole spawns, you have an Entry side (for example, a H296 C5→C5 connection) and you have the Exit Side (K162 in ALL CASES). The Exit side will only show up in the probe scanner window as a Cosmic Signature in the destination system once certain conditions are met. Namely that someone has jumped through from the Entry side or that a certain amount of time has passed.

So, you can wind up with a situation where there is a K162 wormhole in a system that is invisible on the Probe Scanner window and cannot be probed out, and that no-one has jumped through from the Entry side (if anyone jumps through, a cosmic signature will populate in the Destination system).

Drifters, because they’re weird ass Jovian bastards, do not follow the same rules as the rest of us. Drifters know when there’s an ā€˜invisible’ k162 in system and will, occasionally, warp to said ā€œinvisibleā€ wormhole. Combat probing that Drifter down lands you on-grid with a K162 that has no Probe Scanner Window entry.

This anomaly in the wormhole spawn mechanics can, and has, been used to hilarious effect. Combat probing out a drifter that’s off in deep space without a sig nearby has led to catching a Krab Fleet in a site who thought they had rolled off all incoming connections and had ~4 hours of ā€˜safety’ before their static’s K162 spawned.

Nothing weird going on here once you understand the underlying mechanics.
