1 million HP hauler kill. Can anyone explain this?

His fit isnt based on hp, its based on shield regen. Regen fits can get super silly if you use them right and the small t1 haulers are really good at it. You can very easily make a Badger facetank lvl 4 missions for instance. And if, as he does, he blings it and probably backed by Nirvana implants the regen gets idiotic.

Shield regen isn’t a fixed number, it depends on the total percentage of shield left and peaks around 30% shield. So the lower his shield gets (above 30%) the more he tanks, result of that is that the incoming dps will hit a wall of regen it simply can’t hit past. He could go AFK for hours and be fine, right until a whole ton MORE dps gets added that breaks his regen.

And given that he was probably hovering around 40% total shield “just a few extra catas” will break him.

ok so if 7 catalysts and two orcas had to shoot him for hours to chew through his shield regen, then maybe that fit could withstand 20 catalysts for 15 or 20 seconds until CONCORD arrives? would that work for Uedama?

Ok, let’s try a super simple version.

  • To survive lot of dps in a short period (like in a gank), you need buffer tank (lots of EHP).
  • To survive small amount of dps for long periods of time, you need regen or active tank.

That Nereus is heavily geared towards the latter so it won’t work in case of the former (as demonstrated because he died).

Also for small things, I would suggest an interceptor or sub-2-second align frigate. Can’t gank it if you can’t catch it,

i read and i understand. I just want to know how this works and how many catalysts i can tank in an Uedama gank. because it seems like a cheap fit for hauling blue loot.

260 million ISK for a 1.000.000 hp unsuspecting nereus fit is very cheap. Compared to 2+ billion for a freighter or an Orca.

But if you are flying it, same rules apply to you so you have to know them.

Anyway for small stuff, I would suggest a sub-2-second align frigate. Can’t gank it if you can’t catch it (with a bit of clever flying).

I usually haul large amounts of blue loot from wormholes. I need something with quite a bit of cargo. small frigates won’t do. even a nereus wouldn’t be enough, but I could use 5 of these 1.000.000 babies to haul my loot though. do you guys think I should use a nereus or a sigil?

Serious answer: a blockade runner. It’s cheaper than the fit above and much harder to catch.
