Not every multiboxer is a bot. I have 10 accounts. Most of the 15 characters spread across those accounts are designed to work in groups of various sizes, from pairs up to a mining fleet of 8 plus booster. Only the PvP alts are meant to work alone. The only tool I use to help me is the CCP approved Eve-O Preview that gives me little previews of each window that I can click on. All this saves me is hitting Win-Tab every time I need to cycle clients.
Technically, ISBoxer is allowed if you don’t use its input broadcasting. One of the tools it has is a hotkey to cycle clients in a particular order, and is not a violation of TOS to use that.
Thanks for taking the time to share all of that — it’s clear how much EVE meant to you and how deeply those experiences and friendships are tied to the game. What you describe sounds like a really special era: not just mechanics, but a culture of mentorship, creativity, and player-driven stories that are hard to replicate anywhere else. I can completely understand why seeing those styles fade, alongside concerns about bots and enforcement, would leave a lot of long-time players feeling disillusioned.
At the same time, I appreciate you framing this as lived experience rather than just frustration. Games that run for decades inevitably change, and while some of those changes are undoubtedly made with good intentions, they don’t always preserve what made the game magical for certain communities. Even so, the fact that those friendships endured beyond EVE — and that you’re still flying together in other universes — says a lot about how powerful that shared history was. Hopefully there’s still room, in one form or another, for EVE to recapture some of that emergent, player-driven spirit that you remember so fondly.
