I think you underestimate what a huge DDOS attack can be, or you don’t understand how the network is build.
I’m not here to prove myself to scary IT bully Bouh. Although I do pride myself in being very very good at what I do. As far as not understanding how the network is built… I mean honestly, you don’t either. But I assume it has room for improvement. I’m sure if we poked around enough and check some Wireshark/Fiddler logs, we could get a lot simply from the launcher itself (I assume there is a lot of neat http traffic to analyze with Fiddler).
And truthfully man, the “not my fault” mentality is a pretty serious problem in many tech industries.
I’m not sure how far you want to take this discussion? Like… you figure out the attack vector, and adjust. You can’t stop all DDOS attacks, but like I said… you implement strategies to minimize the damage. We are on week 3.
If you want to take our nerd off to a private message… feel free to hit me up (in game or on the forums, can even get you a discord link if ya want). We both might learn new things which is always pretty cool. We’re going around in circles here though with no end in sight. So I’m going to go ahead and bow out of the public forum with this. o7
Russian pilots were not showing in low sec local - RIP my ship - refund applied for.
Fiddler? LoL! Burp maybe? What do you want from launcher? Man, you are on the client side. You have no idea what is going on on the server side. And I’m glad that there is no HTTP traffic in the launcher
Errr, how sure are you of that? ;D
I’m 13,37% confident. But, shhhhh…it’s a secret
This imply that one of “Eve Online - player” is the DDOS.
It is CCP job to make sure that their hardware for handling repetitive incoming traffic. Any malicious incoming activity should be comb over with fine tune. Yahoo website, government DOD, etc, are all that have to be running.
Re-compensate player’s lost money or declare loss of company’s financial credit rating.
Comparing CCP to megacorps or government bodies that get tens of billions in funding is not fair. It is their job and I think generally CCP is doing it fine. Now there is a hiccup, it happens.
From unfair to complete bonkers. What’s wrong with you? Listen, we all have different opinions on a lot of stuff concerning EVE, be it game mechanics or whatever. But when the sh*t hits the fan, we stand side by side and back our game and CCP with it. Is that understood?
I think you need to revisit some of your assumptions, friend.
I just captured all kinds of goodies with fiddler when I got home (just to make sure). Honestly, I love hearing opposing views until the credibility is totally gone.
All these “experts” and keyboard commandos anytime some sh*t goes down.
Keep on going, it’s entertaining.
Nah… I’m done. But I do hope it triggered a very humbling moment and maybe (re)sparked the drive to continue learning more about technology. Even if they do it out of sheer hate for me.
You’re delusional, but I like you for it.
It’s the End Times. Fly back to your home station and be with your families… if you can.
Thank you, that had me laughing till I cried
hmph,
all i know is that team security once spoke about DDOS in the past and X number of attempts vs EvE, and we never lost connection like recently.
Most recent change in conjunction with these successful attacks…the chats were moved to an Amazon server…
It’s important to understand that a full-scale DDoS attack is incredibly difficult to defend against. Even a “successful” defense is likely to result in some loss of service. You need to know your service and the expectations that your users have and have a good idea of what the minimum acceptable level of service is, and plan a response accordingly.
The best way to protect against a flood of traffic coming into your network is to, quite simply, get it away from your network. A DDoS attack tries to funnel traffic from all over the world down your single network connection. If you can get that traffic to go elsewhere, then your network connection is free to respond to legitimate requests.
One way to stop this from happening is using a PROXY but this does not always work.
DDOS attacks have evolved - there’s a lot more traffic when the DDOS’er can force ‘Internet of Things’ items like ‘intelligent light bulbs’ and ‘internet-connected toasters’ etc. to assist…
