I know virtually nothing about DDOS and counter actions but whitelisting could help here I guess. At the very first layer install a packet filter that drops anything that does not come from the last known IP address of a registered (subscribed?) user. Sure some dudes will still suck but when the server is stable this way, other IPs can be whitelisted gradually. Yeah thats a lot of IPs but how much processing power is needed to look up a 32bit integer in a table of say, 20.000 entries.
This is where everyone should stop reading.
Yeah I did
If you have a problem, just write it down. I might be back later.
Itâs self evident. You said you have no idea about what you are talking about and then promptly go ahead to proceed a solution to something you donât know anything about.
What is everybody talking about? I^ve been hunting relic sites all day without any problems. But if there is a problem I demand free skill points as a compensation for the inconvenience this issue may have caused (Good old days)
No. I like written communication because we all can see what I wrote.
Yes. This is what you said. We know. Bc you wrote it.
Yes, this one is true. I think virtually means almost. But I am not a native speaker, correct me if I am wrong. Anything about whitelisting or you are really stuck at my modesty?
is the server still having login issues ? still canât login on 3 accounts but it shows 24k players logged in
Think of it as driving a car. You leave your home and get into your car to drive to work. Your home is ok, your car is ok, your work is ok. The main road from your home to your work is broken. Your car works. Your work is where it always is and it is ok. The road is still broken so no work today.
Whitelist is like your work knowing your car registration number so the gate opens for you when you get there.
But the road is still broken so you can not get to the gate for the gate to open for you.
So-o⌠what type and what strength are the shields on this ship of yours
Umm I donât get you. Please assume I understand IPv4 networks and routing.
I feel you.
I lost my Gold Magnate. The awful thing is my alt also lost a Raven State Issue at the same time.
Tough luck eh?
Ok, try this one instead cos I am trying to keep it very very simple as you said your English is not the best.
You sit at your PC and instead of wifi you have a router connected with a cable. You use this to get to the internet. Now someone has cut the cable between your PC and the router. The router works, the PC works but still no internet until the cable if fixed. This is like this. Even using the password âwhitelistâ will not let you connect because someone has cut the cable.
Can you investigate which of the larger groups/corps/alliances/coalitions benefits most from this attack and take appropriate measures against them.
Thanks for your efforts.
Still getting pretty bad lag + drops in Essence just fyi
Nice tinfoil hat, man! Where can I get one too?
I live in Michigan USA and had unplayable connectivity throughout yesterday.
I began a series of traces and Smokeping polling from approximately 20 jump boxes across the US and EU which utilize multiple backbones from L7, Comcast, Charter, Sprint, etc. and while not every connection was severely impaired, all were impacted. The heaviest impact was in France where throughput was crawling and ping times were up an average of 350-500ms from normal.
Correlating this data and time stamps with the TQ server online status, you can clearly see that there was quite a large number sources for the DDOS attack.
This is not something that CCP can just fix all on their own.
They have to coordinate efforts with several providers and multiple operation centers in order to isolate the offending IP addresses or blocks of IP addresses. This takes time and cooperation from everyone involved.
Traffic from those sources will likely be Netscreened and filtered out in some way to prevent compromised systems from further disrupting connectivity to CCP servers.
Identifying the âtriggerâ IP can be a daunting task but I hope they are able to do so and legal action is taken against the one(s) who initiated the DDOS. It is in fact a major crime to deliberately disrupt connectivity of public connectivity for any purpose.
Everyone should have patience with these issues when they arise. Understand that everyone involved takes these issues very seriously as do have financial impact on service and backbone providers as well as the intended target(s) of such attacks.
Good luck CCP, I hope you eventually identify and prosecute the person(s) responsible.
No. I said itâs not my first language. I said it because you seemingly misunderstood the word âvirtuallyâ. You donât need to keep it simple when it comes to IP networks.
So what are you trying to say? There is no route for us to CCP network?
