So… not the best then. Cool.
No I didn’t, that was you cos you asked for clarification on its meaning.

any new developments on the DDoS matter?
I scrolled up. I did not ask for clarification on my own words. I did so for an explanation which is kept so very very simple that I don’t understand where it goes. But ok, IP networks is not for everyone.
If it means anything, I have been getting random disconnects. had two within the last hour and now I can’t get back in.
Scratch that. I just got in.
Just had my third disconnect. On the bright side I got in as soon as I tried to log in.
Btw it’s hard to believe for me that the DDOS has any impact on backbone routes or anything outside CCP. An eve client generates what, a few packets per sec, rounded to 20Kbps at average and multiplied by 25K concurrent users gives something like 500Mbps. Obviously the infrastructure is chosen to serve up to a few Gbps, not more. Anything near or above that will cause delays and outages (aka denial of service). In contrast, networks of backbones between countries can surely transmit data in the Tbps range.
It isn’t.
Which is a great thing.
I lost my connection outside a gate in a PVP FW zone. I hope my ship is still intact.
edit: Nope I died. ■■■■ this game
It’s all fun and games for the attacker until the Feds are knocking at their door. People have been imprisoned for years for DDOSing MMOs. I don’t know if CCP have pursued criminal action against previous attackers, but they might want to consider it to deter future attacks. Or not. I’m generally not in favor of extra punitive measures, just what is fair. The local Federal authorities might take this action regardless. This costs CCP a lot of money, and is unfair to the player base.
The interconnects are not what is impacted. It’s the smaller providers which break out their DIA to multiple 400gb and 100gb or 10gb fiber connections. The routing of the traffic across the smaller circuits is where the bottle-necking occurs.
Usually when I see issues with connectivity it is with the switching in London when the majority of the traffic from that part of the country is ‘funneled’.
Apparently the 10gb circuit in London was saturated with traffic from all over the area, not just to and from one client…so traffic was routed differently to pass traffic around the London operations centers.
This happens quite often actually. This can be due to a multitude of reasons. For instance, a fiber break due to a vehicle accident where a power pole supporting the fiber was broken.
Re-routing traffic can cause other issues though, because the ‘back up’ route usually carries traffic of it’s own and suddenly has to also carry the full load of traffic from the re-routed circuit. This can cause saturation in the back-up circuit and thus dropped packets due to delay and prioritization.
A particular network switch in France is where I am seeing the issue with higher than normal ping times and dropped packets.
The providers may be deliberately routing the bulk traffic to and from CCP servers through this particular switch in a deliberate attempt to isolate offending IP addresses.
Routing through such screening can in itself cause delays.
It’s possible that certain IP blocks that have been identified as ‘clean’ are being routed normally which can explain why some people are not experiencing latency issues.
I do not know for sure who, what or why, I can only speculate based on what traffic I can analyze.
Echo likes skill injectors.
Bc that is where the EVE servers are.
Lol, unfortunately they don’t do me any good since I only get a fraction of the benefit that newer players get from them.
It looks to be several hops before CCP owned circuits.
Yes, bc is DDoS.
The EVE servers are physically in London which is why you “usually see issues” there - that is the busiest point for i/o traffic as that is where the servers are.
So pls do tell us more from your google search of things. This is known but you repeating it would be awesome.
Yeah. Me too, but they fetch a good price. I still inject. I haven’t ran the math yet conclusively, but I think they are still genrally better than (boosters?.. the 11 slot +x to skill points for 1 day) until you have over 80 Mil SP.
The stability of the connection to the EVE Server is terrible.
It is a pain to do anything in the game.
Better to wait for the problems to be really resolved or for the DDoS attacks to stop.
wow the lag, seems every gate jump takes over 1min on top of that undocking and redocking is like 10mins it seems, guess ill wait and play eve later
DDoS attacks are not from one IP. They are from a lot of people that have downloaded malware and are now a bot that is told to attack someone. It is very hard to block attacks from thousands of bots that have high speed Internet connections.
