Oh yes, I totally am with you on that. I paid 3 months on a few chars (this weekend), so I agree. But I’m not all anit EVE. Just anti no word from CCP on progress over the weekend. Okay, if they came straight out and said: “Sorry guys and girls, we are not able to do anything at the moment, you will have to suffer with a broken chat (either not working or no standings)”, that would be one thing. Radio silence for 3 days? Well, hmm. Okay. I’m willing to wait for a little because, in the end, this is nothing. Even if they continue to be doosh and not give any info on what happened and it is fixed Monday or Tuesday, I will still say the devs suck, but at least it is fixed. Now to make them rock in my mind, fix it, tell us what happened, and let us know how they are putting things in place that will prevent it from happening in the future. Of all of the bad releases of games in recent history, broken promises upon release, and so forth, who are the ones that are praised the most? The ones who are open, honest, and continue to communicate with their community. CCP has this sometimes, right now, they do not.
Sorry but I disagree with you. No excuses can be made for a customer paid product that doesn’t work. No fleet chat , no intel. As for keeping it going for 20 years, so what? You’d think that after 20 years they would understand every line of code and algorithm and if they don’t then they are constantly breaking rule one of software engineering “if you don’t understand it, you don’t change it”
Oh my goodness, thinking that the same developers from 20 years ago are still working with the code? Or even worse, when new developers came into the company, the older developers were able to instruct the new ones on what each line of code does. Sorry, this is not even close to how software development has been practiced. Only in recent years have the field matured enough to make new developers understand more than before, but there is so much more room for improvement. I have found that software developers do not really know everything that they are doing. There is a whole lot of guesswork, and when the technology changes, when new ways of doing things are discovered, that muddles up the waters even more. Plus, they have moved from Python to C++ (among other languages), an engine that has been written in a language that was not intended to be doing what it does. Back 20 years ago, they did some really awesome things to get the game working as it is! The only thing I dislike about the current state is the lack of transparency. The industry is very weird from the outside looking in and just hard to describe from the inside looking out. Oh, to add, “don’t understand it, don’t change it?” If that mindset was in place, eve servers might as well be shut down. I say, don’t understand it, replace it!

Oh I suggested I had a feeling that the game in its current state did not meet my reasonable expectations when I subscribed and that the current paradigm was not one that was likely to keep me as a paying customer long-term.
The GM seemed agreeable with that viewpoint.
