I saw your message at the time and forgot to reply.
I don’t think that is a fair representation of what’s going on here, I think it’s much more likely what I said in my post above - the devs probably want to fix it, and management probably doesn’t want to pay to get it fixed at least not when it costs them OT.
tldr; if I’m right I feel bad for the devs, even if I’m wrong management are to blame.
I think that is why my company pays their engineers’ salaries, so that if an issue like this happens with our clients, we will do the work and not get paid for it, but we can take time off later on without an issue. Same paycheck every paycheck, work 80, or work 20, as long as all is running well
Have you considered training in social skills? There are 5,120,000 points available.
According to my launcher it is 20,351 available
Yeah, and apparently they need more time to find the issue. Until then, the opt-in local chat works fine. Every other chat is mostly reliable, too.
I’m sticking with the buggy chat, so I know when it is fixed. Right now I don’t need the chat anyway, I have all of you wonderful people here to chat with.
Then at least have a community manager take five minutes to log in and provide that as an update. It’s not like that will pull away from any of the dev time required to fix it.
As for “more time”, they bill in 30 periods for this game. To have an outage for what is now day six is fairly significant in that context. Would they like 50% of the subscription period they billed me for?
A core component of their product is faulty, if they can’t fix it easily they should either:
a) Rollback to the last stable version of the service they are billing us for
b) Work OT until they get it fixed and provide updates with a reasonable frequency
c) Offer compensation for the downtime they caused

Community managers might be paid hourly, but with this issue, I believe @CCP_Paragon could have a heart and say, “This is what’s up” each day, updating on the top message of the thread. Even if he has to work 15 to 20 minutes for free for the evil CCP overlords (what was that company again that purchased CCP again? evil evil evil…).
Precisely, and let’s be honest CCP can afford to pay him for an hour’s worth of work over the weekend.
A rollback to a previous version may not fix it if it is an issue with AWS. Though Amazon is trustworthy as a service, it is quite complex when you get into it. I highly doubt they have a ‘simple’ solution through AWS to provide the chat services in-game. The temp ‘work around’ is as close to a ‘roll back’ that they might be able to implement. There has been a lot of changes in the backend over the past couple of years. This stuff is not ‘easy’ to fix. Transparency is what needs to happen, not ‘fix it now’, but to be transparent in what is going on, and communicate! Please don’t be like my employer; communicate freely. It actually does work (I keep telling upper management this, they are so anal that they can’t see it, is CCP the same way? maybe…)
Yea! I gave them that much this weekend! Planning on a few more bucks in the next couple of days (even with a f-up chat).
Looks like the player count has taken a hit again… below 20K on the weekend.

See I highly doubt it’s an AWS issue. As complex as AWS can be (it makes my head hurt so I use simpler providers myself), I doubt they changed something that fundamentally broke the ejabberd instance(s) CCP are running. Especially as it happened after CCP deployed a patch.
What is far more likely is that CCP either changed something in the game code, or the ejabberd or AWS configurations that they manage, any of those should be fairly easy to resolve.
Anyway, breakfast time, see you all in a bit.
GOOD! Finally, the numbers are dropping to where they should be for their type of communication. Below 15k would be better! This is one way they will see that there is an impact happening. CCP: BE TRANSPARENT, and this stuff will not be so bad!
You said i misunderstand game mechanics because you didnt pick up the turn of phrase i used…not my problem youve chosen to act like this and then doubledown
also do you even play? why are you here…
In the (not so) distant future, when DPUs are cheap, we won’t have any issues but the question is: will CCP be able to survive their own incompetence until then or will they fuckup so badly that we all quit this shitshow before?
Time will tell, maybe I’ll be around to see it, maybe not.
Yes; at the start of the “Scarcity” changes, CCP divided ore availability up into security bands, so that each security band would have something unique. Moving Omber out of HS to LS caused Isogen prices to climb.
You’re the last person that will quit. Don’t kid yourself top g.
