2023/05/11 - Ongoing - Intermittent chat issues

at least my boot.ini remains.

That’s more of a Microsoft thing than a CCP thing at this point xD

So any news on what is going on? Or how long it will take to fix. Great 20-year anniversary where your chat dies.

Not for almost 3 days :frowning:

Has anybody From CCP state yet about crediting for the loss days because of no Local?

they havent said anything about anything in checks Ashlelle’s countdown (bless u btw) uhhhh 2 days 9 hours 52 minutes and some

File a support ticket to the GMs, they’re the ones with that ability.

I’m thinking I’ll wait till it’s finally fixed to file for my accounts. then i don’t have to do it twice when it takes another week to fix it. Without any communications or updates.

It would be less of a problem if it was just that they were all neutral. I logged in with one alt, did some stuff, logged in with a different alt on the same account and the first alt was still in the “opt-in” local. I left the system, did some other stuff and returned… the first alt was still in the “opt-in” local. All of the other chats were blank the entire time. The work around local doesn’t work either… but at least it’s broken differently.

I am not sure if it has been identified yet, but there is a valid reason why CCP has not provided an update - Local Chat is down is also down at CCP.

In space, no one hears you scream - in local.

i think it was around 2006. there was an update during the daytime then a server issue and hotfix around midnight iirc. hotfix deleted boot.ini several hundred new windows xp installs (i think vista was just coming out) followed by instruction not to switch off or restart pc and rapid hotfix for the hotfix. they should do a ‘remember when?’ series of devblogs covering the various fuckups, scandals and learnings over the years. would be cool to read about.

OK, I previously said that I thought CCP might just be making a big mistake by not communicating.

Now, after looking at Hilmar and other CCP accounts on Twitter, between no communication on their “Server Cluster Status” account @EVE_status, nothing from CCP CEO @HilmarVeigar, and nothing on this thread filled with so many pleas/requests for a status update, there are no good conclusions.

#1 - Since I can’t believe CCP is so inept that they wouldn’t communicate about the problem at all, it is only reasonable at this point to assume they are silent on purpose. Ordinarily, CCP would respond to this thread by now.

The question is why?

#2 - Even if there was a huge tech problem a functioning and solvent company would at least communicate with their subscribers. Are ALL their customer-facing employees not only not working, but restricted from posting any information?

Weekends are some of Eve’s busiest times and in the past they seem to have GM’s and others on duty.

#3 - Pure speculation: Was the shutdown of browser access announced for May 24 based upon the financial health of CCP? Are they cutting their losses and expenses? Did they decide to not pay both customer service reps and tech workers to do even the basics over the weekend?

#4 - What is the likelihood that CCP and Eve will be around to see its 21st anniversary if they are so unaware of their customers’ needs for information, or worse, that they choose not to respond?

I’ve enjoyed my time in the world of Eve, and especially the people of my corp who have given so much of their time and lives to create this wonderful opportunity, to say nothing of the real-world investments I have made in the expectation of Eve continuing to be a part of my life.

I would be very sad, and even more than a little mad, to discover that CCP decided not to fund people to let their customers know that they are important because we’re looking at end-of-Eve.

Whether CCP couldn’t afford to pay people to update their customer base, they chose to ignore the many pleas for any information, or they couldn’t afford to do what was needed over the weekend, this is not good news for Eve.

one way to "celebrate " 20 year in space
not sure if its even worth getting mad at this point, when the chat was working properly when there were 50-60k players and now barely working with 20k players online, truly, a milestone to celebrate

I love this unic game but man… I play since 2009 on and off, and this issue is eye opening.
The lack of communication on this outtage made me realise some stuff as I read the forums …

1: content, compared to other mmo the added value is very poor even more so since the Price climb and added micro transaction

2: vision, upper management at CCP are utter garbage, all the failled games… FFS how much of the 33% price increase went into eve every where shutting down in few days?

3: acquisition, Pearl f**** abyss for real? I would have never returned If I knew, explains a lot… Eve is on the “mmo to milk, put on whale mod and eventually kill” list

4: futur, “Eve is dying” it is since 2003, most of the people I know and play Eve play it from inertia, habit and because they are too deep into the sauce to loose it all by leaving. But excitement seems to bee long gone.
I came back after a 4 years break, new UI meh, abyssals, ok 20mins dungeon, pochven, faction warfare 2.0, seem cool.
Now ask yourself how much WOW and FFXIV have changed in this same period lol, with a lower price and way way more work done as these are actual full 3d worlds not some 3d ships models not enterable and bunch of items …

I’ll finish my omegas, and close the Pandora’s box for good while cherishing the memories if this Fan Fest confirms my worries, makes me sad realy

Wow that’s the biggest chat problem i can remember. Ppl who’ve said that you should’ve just call it “blackout 2.0” were totally right - it would’ve caused less trouble and would’ve been a lot easier to explain :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Btw, i’m not implying or something… but before you’ve outsorced your own chat system to the amazon there were no such major issues. Now there are and quite frequent.

Own chat system = no problems (or manageable ones)
Amazon owns your chat system = problems

Cause and effect.

CCP deleted it in 2007 with the Trinity expansion.

This type of treatment of customers is what is better known as bad business … actually this isnt just bad business, this is clear and obvious management ignoring their cash cow and working more towards pleasing their investors while trying to save face with some dude coming out publicly trying to make everyone happy with what looks like “we are working on it” … when in reality, they are NOT working on it, unless you want to call “working on it” something more like “tell the customer everything is fine so they dont flip out” … at the end of the day this is complete rip-off level operations … it is what it is …

EvE is NOT what it used to be … it used to be solid and fun … those days are long gone …

You know what… Just have generative AI take care of all of this. I swear, we will have everything fixed with GAI (till it becomes AGI, then we will just play and not care).
