we: Can’t Chat Properly
they: Can’t Communicate Progress

Well, they could do an easy fix for this matter. Just do a “Players in system” stat somewhere around where the system name is. Make it to have standings and make the local chat similar to WH one.
No one really uses the local chat, except JITA spammers and people only need local chat mostly to see who is in the system. That way the info about players in system would work even with the chat completely down. Besides, you have this data already on the maps, it is just delayed 30 mins or gives average on 30 mins.
i dont think the issue at hand is whether or not its an easy fix or fixed at all at this point and more so that no one got any updates in DAYS (despite promises to the contrary) while multiple major systems weren’t operating normally.
You can tell how much they work I couldn’t recognize bjorn bee on the CCP stream 1 week back
Event time will extended, i hope (
Ok, so coming into day 7 of chat being totally unworkable, fleet chats not forming etc and not even a Monday morning update.
Very poor form CCP.
CCP cannot update us on the ongoing problem IF AWS techs/devs are not working on the weekend.
ingame chat is external from the eve client in other words it runs on the Amazon AWS cloud service, ccp cannot just roll back , that has to be done by AWS tech/devs.
Paragon is doing his best with the information he gets from AWS, if AWS still has thier fingers up there A** there is nothing paragon can do to give us an update.
Personally, i think CCP as a whole should bring external chat service back to inhouse where it can be tweeked and looked at by eve devs not some random tech that does not work on weekends because he is to busy rock climbing etc etc. yes inhouse chat had problems but nothing like we have had since it has been handed out to AWS. At the very least we could say that extra $5 we pay on our subs is used to keep chat running smothe and pays devs to work and mould ingame chat inhouse.
As i said dont blame paragon he is just the messenger for a very poorly opperated large external web service provider that is providing him with very little feedback.
it is also not CCP’s fault , well maybe but it boils down to AWS (amazon web services ) and thier lack of coomunication to CCP and then feeding down to us the players.
Take a look at AWS’s SLA (service level agreements). Given the cost involved, I doubt they’d be “not working on the weekend” if this issue was something they had to fix. Cloud providers like AWS have a few major selling points one of which is uptime so they have people avaliable around the clock.
Another misconception I’ve seen with cloud computing in this thread is the idea that CCP has no ability to manage things on their AWS servers. They will have access to both a web interface and an SSH connection of some sort that will enable them to do plenty of work. AWS is offering HaaS - you the client have to do your own installation and management work.
For what it’s worth, I highly doubt @CCP_Paragon has any fault in this fiasco. I feel for the devs and the GMs at the moment the latter of whom are definitely taking a hit from angry players. Chat is munted, and at the end of the day it’s on management to get the developers/support staff/community managers the resources they need to get things right.
As you said, I very much doubt that AWS engineers stop working at the weekend.
Usually the reason for going to a cloud service is to improve things. Those of us in the IT world understand things go wrong but it is how you communicate to your users that makes or breaks things.
To give 1000’s of people no update and a “fix” that doesnt really work then go radio silent over the weekend is poor.
Current low is that the ‘fixed’ local chat is borked as well.
How do I know? Because my own name is missing!
Yeah it’s always been borked, even taking into consideration the issues mentioned by the OP.
Or and here me out here… CCP fixes their broken product that has been broken for close to 25% of their billable period. Then @Grimstone_Antollare will happily go back to doing whatever it is they do in the game and everybody wins.
their product works. A part of the product has a problem.
Yes, a part of the game is broken. It’s the part that allows you to easily communicate with other players in a game CCP themselves market as an MMORPG. I would call that a fairly core part of a multiplayer game wouldn’t you?
it doesnt matter. Anything to do with Billing requires full downtime to even come close to anything “Billable”. it functions as intended, you can log in you can play. Thats their only legal requirement when it comes to billing
Legal isn’t the only consideration for a company, especially for one with such a small client base.
Eve Online has a famously tough learning curve and by CCP’s own comments not the best conversion rate of new players. So you’d think they want to hang on to the ones they already have. This type of response or complete lack thereof from CCP isn’t going to do that. Given the player numbers are in the toilet from the start of the second decade they might want to do something about that. Maybe not though
those numbers are artificial. they didnt lose customers, people just stoppedflying 22 ships
The number of individuals doesn’t matter when it comes to CCP’s cash flow, the number of subbed accounts do. Looking at those numbers, it’s not hard to see a downward trend since the early 2010s.
at one point yesterday, 39,000 pilots were online.
