It is.

This makes no sense.

Once there was a start with ad hominem (which is NOT the same as toxicity) there is no discussion.
So the person who claimed you had no skill OUT OF the skills discussion made a personal attack and should be moderated. Then you answered with other name calling, but this was NOT in a discussion since the discussion was already made impossible by the aforementioned ad hominem.
Not saying you are right. I’m saying this is something different, what you should have done is report him for personal attack and let the moderation remove his message and warn him - instead you are culprit of insults or whatever you did.

There is no degree, just definitions. If someone sidetracks the discussion and you tell him to get back , you are not going offtopic.

Stop right here.

Because the first is always a personal attack, with added racism apology, while the second one is not a personal attack as long as personal skills are the topic.
Racism apology is punished by law in many countries.

It’s not toxic, it’s ad hominem.
Toxic is when you pretend to help but have a negative effect.
Backhand typically are toxic but not ad hominem.

That argument would be acceptable if you actually provided the links to the message.
Again, it’s not a personal attack if the person was using its own value as a part of his argument.
Out of context you can’t judge a post. What you did could as well be defamation since you pretended the messages were made without a context.

If the previous message was implying (or requiring) his poster to make sense regularly , then it’s not a personal attack to say you don’t remember it.

That’s a personal attack.

You’re free to do that if you want, but I’m not going to define my EVE Online experience by chain-reporting everyone whenever they say anything that I personally find offensive.

They’re both posts in this thread.

I’ll do it as a courtesy:

1 2

This could be applied to quite literally anything a person says. Someone who’s black could say that their usage of the term “dumb n-word” is not a personal attack because it’s a term proprietary to their own human experience.

Actually, no, that’s not a personal attack, but an accusation.

Furthermore, it’s an accusation I’ve proven (as the burden of proof is on the accuser) by pointing out examples of you being highly selective with regard to calling out “personal attacks” in forum discussions.

It’s not courtesy, it’s mandatory. If you don’t provide the links then your argument is sour.
If you “cannot be bothered” to make the search that EVERYBODY would have to do when they want to address your comments, you are not discussing in good faith : on the opposite, you are making the discussion harder to follow, and interact with.

  1. is nonsense. I have no idea what they are talking about. I don’t care. I would have reported “I don’t pay to win.” it as a personal attack instead of wasting my time writing a post, because it is.

  2. is an answer to “For someone to keep railing on about it” which is also personal attack.

So as I wrote, in both cases it’s not personal attack because the context was not a discussion to start with.
It’s following personal attacks with more insults.
It’s a complete waste of time, and also a complete waste of time to read that.

People can say stupid things, does not mean it makes sense.
Being black does not give you privilege. That would be racism.

Yes, your interpretation of “because you X” is a personal attack : you claim that my arguments are not acceptable based on personal characteristics. You disregard my arguments based on your interpretation of my person, instead of attacking them on their own value.

I’m sure you will one day be able to grasp that notion. Keep trying. Maybe your parents could even be proud of you.

That last message was also toxic because it pretends I have a duty to read all messages and judge them equally.
I’m not moderation. I don’t have such a duty.
Me not reading all messages or not judging them equally does not invalidate my point.

> complains about toxicity on the forums
> tries to backseat-mod specific posters for making personal attacks
> “Maybe your parents could even be proud of you.”

I think it’s safe to say that we’re squarely into the “Destiny responding with smug anime girl .gif images” phase of the argument at this point.

If you can’t recognize an example when you see one, I guess your parents will wait longer than I expected.

Nice personal attack BTW.
I’ll accept your plead against civil arguments.

back to topic : I agree that ISDs should be CCP employee. There is no reason for volunteer work when the company is making money.

No, we don’t need another Twitter or Mastodon, where volume of bad posts makes up for a character limit.

Who says short posts are bad?

at least Musk is taking active measures against toxicity !
By burying it.

Happy now?

The amount of absolute hypocrisy you manage to throw out of every post is amazing. It’s really an accomplishment. Maybe your parents are proud? Or maybe they will have to wait longer. Is that a personal attack? Or me using what I know about you to inform my opinion? It’s hard to keep up with you, probably because you are just so gosh darn smart.

No, it’s a plain insult.
You are not even pretending to make an argument.
You are letting the salt flow. Which is also forbidden, the issue being that the moderation will not ban you for that plain aggression.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But, remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling.
  • Ad hominem attacks.
