im looking for advice for good fits for pvp ships to defend terrortory or a small hunt of people in our system any tips is gladly apprecited since im not much of a pvper but i would like to get into a little
Can you provide any context? Nullsec, lowsec, wormhole?
As you are solo, you aren’t really going to be able to defend space, per se. What you can do is solo PvP against the people who turn up in your system.
Your biggest advantage as a defender is that you can keep a hangar full of ships and pick the one that seems best for the specific situation. Is there a particular ship or fleet comp that you would like advice on how to counter?
Its for nullsec
The way to do this is to live there for awhile, doing your thing, and meanwhile making lots of tactical bookmarks all over the system. Over time, take notice of who roams there and what they are flying. Look them up on zkillboard to learn how they fit their ships. Think about how you would counter that. Also look up the people who are winning against these people and what their fits are.
Then you come up with a plan for when you see them again or someone else in the same ships. It should have three basic elements - a ship and fit that can beat what the other guy has, a plan for how to fly it, and a plan for how to make a fight happen.
The first element is self-explanatory. The second requires some skill. And to make a fight happen you either need to attack them so quickly or unexpectedly that you can tackle them before they react, or you need to make them think that they would win in a fight so that they will attack you - bait them.
Over time, you should accumulate a hangar full of ships capable of killing all the stuff that you commonly see hunting solo or in small groups. With experience, you should learn how to win fights in those ships. Don’t be discouraged by a lot of losses at first.
As an example, you might notice that there are a lot of Hecates roaming solo in nullsec looking to kill ratters. A Vexor is a newbie-friendly ratting ship commonly killed by Hecates solo - so it would make an enticing bait. So you look at zkillboard and you see a common Hecate solo PvP fit looks something like this:
[Hecate, Nullsec Solo Guy Hecate]
Damage Control II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer,Nanite Repair Paste
5MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
Fleeting Compact Stasis Webifier
Stasis Webifier II
Warp Scrambler II
Expanded Probe Launcher II,Sisters Combat Scanner Probe
Light Neutron Blaster II,Void S
Light Neutron Blaster II,Void S
Light Neutron Blaster II,Void S
Light Neutron Blaster II,Void S
Light Neutron Blaster II,Void S
Small Transverse Bulkhead II
Small Transverse Bulkhead II
Small Transverse Bulkhead II
So then you look up who is killing Hecates with Vexors - since you figure you could bait them with a Vexor by ratting or pretending to rat while they are around, or pretending to be afk - and you find something like this. You shouldn’t copy it exactly - plug it into Pyfa or the simulator and play around with it, optimizing it for your skills until you think you have the best possible fit.
[Vexor, anti-hecate]
Capacitor Power Relay II
Capacitor Power Relay II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Multispectrum Shield Hardener II
5MN Microwarpdrive II
Large Ancillary Shield Booster, Navy Cap Booster 200
Warp Disruptor II
Medium Energy Neutralizer II
Medium Energy Neutralizer II
[Empty High slot]
[Empty High slot]
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II
Medium Thermal Shield Reinforcer II
Medium Core Defense Field Extender II
Valkyrie II x5
Warrior II x5
If you plug that Hecate into an app like Pyfa to see it’s stats, you’ll see it has both a hull tank and active armor tank with poor resists against explosive damage. Minmatar drones apply good explosive damage, so you will be able to shred his armor quickly. You see that he has short range weapons - your drones mean that if you act quickly, you can begin applying damage earlier in the fight than he can. You should burn away from him with your microwarpdrive to extend the time period when you can apply damage effectively while he cannot. He is faster than you, but his whole fit relies on lots of capacitor - which you can drain quickly when he gets close with your 2 medium energy neutralizers. Once his cap is gone you can kill him no problem, if you can survive that long. When you notice your shields getting low, pulse your ancillary shield booster.
Is this fit going to win against a Hecate every time? Definitely not. Pilot skill is a big part of it, and that you must learn through trial and error. The other guy may also fit or fly his ship in an unexpected way. This fit is also good against a variety of small ships who might try to tackle you solo - it’s worth engaging anything once or twice just as a learning experience, since its so inexpensive.
Hope this helps.
