Sweet, I have something similar in mind and I am right you. I haven’t seen all the missions in EVE, only the 12 rotating ones that agent gives out + burner missions.
Like the Blockade mission is only available at Navy Agents like Caldari Navy, Amarr Navy, Federation Navy, Royal Khanid Navy and so on.
Then there are some cool others which you can only get at other agents like Zoar and Sons or Creodrone.
Come to think of it, I did have the same idea once but I never posted it in the forums.
missions ARE random. The exact type of ships is variable every time. their position is sometimes random. The loots are random. Your whole rant makes no sense.
Remember than even procedural generation is bounded by what the devs allowed to generate. in abyss you have three pockets, in each of them you have a squad. Since you can’t tell for sure which squad you will fight, you have to ready to fight any squad among those possible. But in the end you know you can get at max X ship of type Y. So it’s just a matter of taking probabilities into account. (This is not a rant, BTW)
No, they are not random enough. You can always max specific tank because (not including Dread Pirate) you always know the faction and resistance to tank for. Ditto with the strength of the NPC forces. EVE Survival has survived this long because nothing (or very rarely) changes.
Abyssal does vary more. More surprises, more puzzles to figure out. However, to claim Abyssal space is the equivalent of missions received from an agent is just plain wrong. My argument is that CCP claims they cannot offer new missions or create a generator to help supply newer missions, yet they are able to do so with Abyssal space. They have the same problem with exploration sites, too.
Supplying end game content that only a small fraction of the player population uses (abyssal, burner, etc) doesn’t meet the needs of the majority of the players who are looking for improvement in this area of EVE. This isn’t ranting, but an observation on CCP’s history of ignoring feedback from the people who at one time ( and probably still do) represent the largest number of subscribers to the game. It took 8+ years for CCP to finally hear us in regards to Wardecs and the incredible damage it was doing to player retention; for years it was “there is no problem” or “our data doesn’t show that”.
Anderson, there is little, if any, randomness in agent generated missions. It has been this way for a long time.
Browse EVE survival and see how monotonous PvE has become under the planning of CCP. Your posting may not be a rant (in your opinion), but it surely does not make any sense, either. Missions (and more specifically their individual content) is NOT random, despite what you claim.
It’s tough but you can easily gain positive standings with almost every single Faction in this game. Currently I have positive standings with 16 Factions and negative standings with 4 Factions.
Anyway, that wasn’t the point I was trying to make. My point was the amount of negative standing hits incurred while running the Epic Arc. When CCP first implemented the Epic Arcs, the amount of negative standing hits was very minimal and over time CCP has increased that amount without informing the playerbase.
I agree, missions have become stale. But it’s just not randomness that is needed. I can get all the randomness I need from the abyss. What missions should offer, and were supposed to offer is more storytelling, more glimpses into EVE lore.
It’s not much, but Damsel, Scarlet, Zazzmatazz added at least a smidge of emotional investment. More so than just random spawns or more ruins of planetary bodies. Who are those characters?.. Why is Scarlet so smug?..
That’s why I agree with others in these forums that the mission design tools should be handed over to the community. Fans may be able to come up with better stories, mission content, and maybe even the unexpected, better than the devs themselves. Fans are so dedicated they would likely do it for free (maybe throw them some in-game prizes for successful entries at least). So it would also relieve the devs of some of the costs to develop new agent missions. More content cheaper. It’s win-win.
If future CSM’s could get behind that, it would at least liven up one section of the game, and somebody has to keep grinding PvE to keep EVE’s economy rolling, might as well make it minimally tolerable, but preferably fun.
How about when I attempt to log in to the Support Center to log a support ticket - All I get is TLS out of date error message! And yet other parts of EveOnline website appears to be ok.
Whats going on?
