As this part of the forums gets few posts nowadays, I’d thought I’d post a quick story of a little unintentional ‘long-term’ financial adventure of mine
I cant remember exact dates, its that old, but when Dust was just starting to break, around 2013, there was lots of talk of Eve players being able to build stuff and fulfil market orders that the guys in dust would be able to access and purchase their equipment from.
Speculating, I knew of a, then sold CCP item on the market, namely planetary vehicles, which sold for 4k each and in truth had very little purpose ingame, which I decided to invest in on the off chance they would be needed to build main battle tanks, transporters etc for the Dust guys. My plan was to obviously horde these, see their bounce bounce on the back of Dust, and then build the vehicles needed for Dust, selling them at a profit. Hopefully you see my logic.
Over a week or two I raced around and purchased as many planetary vehicles I could from various CCP sell orders, for the fixed price of 4k each. In total I bought 1.9 million of the buggars. Dust came and there was no ingame feature of Eve players building and fulling market orders. Months passed and I pushed them to the back of my hanger hoping things would change.
After some time, cant remember how long, planetary vehicles were switched over from being a CCP sold item to a player built P4 PI commodity. At first, as I clearly wasn’t the only one who had stockpiled them, their sale price was well below that of production cost.
Long story short, I waited, and waited, and waited as the price of these climbed as pre PI stocks were diminished, until eventually, around 12 years later they started to consistently hit their build price of approx 140k. Time now to bring them out of my hanger and dust them off.
Then came the next challenge, which was inbetween the dips and troughs of its market price, selling off 1.9 million units of an item, which on a good day saw only 5 to 10k sold, without crashing the market. Luckily, I wasn’t actively playing now so it was a case of login when and ever and put some up for sale.
I mention all this now as last week I finally sold the last. Personally I hope to never see a planetary vehicle again.
Just thought I’d share this and see if anyone else has ended up, unintentionally, with such a long term invested or if anyone else out there did similar.
And incase you are wondering. No, I didn’t learn my lesson, I’ve also been sitting on something else for several years, which cost me around 100 bill, and I hope it will eventually bring me in around 6 to 800 bill profit
