Abandoned ships = space junk = we need a solution

But then the guy will complain it is cruel that he has to murder his (now) own ship because of some litterer. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:  :upside_down_face:

If you live in highsec or travel through it very often, you can sometimes find abandoned shuttles and corvettes at gates or stations on a daily basis.

If you are traveling in your, let’s say, Tengu, then you are of course free to leave your Tengu and board the empty shuttle that is standing abandoned at the gate/station. Then you can wait for the cool-down timer and in the meantime someone boards your Tengu. Hmm… why doesn’t that sound like a good suggestion or “solution”?

In this context, this is not true:
You can’t just dump your car, with a note in it with your name on it, in public space by just parking it on the street and walking away. You can do it, of course, but then the police will come to you or you will have to pay a hefty fine.

But in New Eden, where there’s Concord in every highsec system, you can just dispose of your vessels wherever you want. And we’re not talking about cruisers, we’re talking about ships that players can get for free or for under 50,000 ISK as good as a gift. Nobody would leave a Battlecruiser at the gate and disappear. So there is something wrong with the attitude of some players.

It’s like online poker for virtual money. At almost every table there is someone who goes all-in before the flop. If you were playing for real money, you would hardly do something like that in every round. But hey, if it’s not worth anything, I don’t have to take care of it or pay attention to my environment.

Brisc, when your final term is over, you should post in here; “you won’t have Brisc Rubal to kick around anymore”. lol

Look on the bright side - at least they can’t shoot your Tengu!

I heartily agree.

By the way, how about that combat probe smokescreen?

Somewhat exaggerated to illustrate the point:

Is there a space police in our present time that punishes transgressions of the law in space? There is one in New Eden - comparable to ours on Earth. And since not everyone of us calls a spaceship his own, I have compared it with a car which you cannot simply dispose of at the roadside.

And to say “We’re littering everything these days anyway, so we don’t have to change anything for the future and we can go on like this.” is kind of nonsense. If it had always been argued in this way, then we simple people would not have the right to vote nowadays, would still live in servitude, would not have machines (what for, everything can be produced by hand) and so on.

And no, a corvette abandoned and disposed at the gate does not hurt YOU or ME personally. Neither does an abandoned and dumped car on a public street. It’s still not okay. In our times you will be punished for this - not so in the future New Eden. And we are not even talking about punishing the players! Just about being allowed to shoot down/dispose of this garbage with impunity.

Please tell me more about how the inability to shoot empty corvettes in High Sec is like becoming a royalist, embracing the Hobbesian political philosophy justifying an absolute sovereign, or espousing Neo-Luddism.

As opposed to just being a mechanic of a game set in a fantastic view of the future that has dystopic elements you don’t like.

Anybody who abandons a ship in highsec should get criminal status if the ship is still there after 24 hours. It is the only solution that makes any logical sense.
