Abyssal Deadspace Risk vs Rewards?

While I have been playing for over a year, mostly mining and running missions. I have just dipped into this area of game play. The Tier 0 ( tranquil ) filaments seem to offer 800,000 to 1 million ISK at best. I have yet to jump into Tier 1 ( calm ) but I already lost a 20 million ISK cruiser to the lack of knowledge and sad to say, that was in my first tranquil.

YouTubers such as AceFace has several videos saying these payout better ISK than what I am seeing so far. Did these rewards get nerfed since those videos were made? Some of his videos are over 1 year old. I am not picking on AceFace, but he seems to be very fervent that abyssal is the pinnacle task in Eve Online. I can see it is a more fun activity than mining rocks and gas, but I don’t see how to make it into an ISK maker.

I am currently running cruisers for everyone of my characters doing these space dungeons. I watched a Captain Benzie video where he stated running it in lesser ships ( destros or frigs ) the reward is large but he didn’t say how much larger. Running with a frigate I think is somewhat insane. I can see the ship won’t cost you 20 to 30 million but the crazy part is using up 3 filaments and the survival of all 3 rooms.

The answers I am seeking from this thread, are real reward numbers and ship risk assessment. While I only play as alpha, I won’t cast off the omega answers here. The additional information will help others in the future. I am seeking successful solo solutions to these raids. I do have some friends who can do these with me, however they are not always available, and long ago I learn not to call them up in the middle of their night asking them for assistance in an online game. It makes them irritable.

I watched a video where a Punisher was used to do a tranquil with success. I decide to do a similar fit on a Tormentor. The benefit is drones and the trade off is you lose a laser.

Then I browsed the market on tranquil filaments, I decided a Firestorm would be best, for two good reasons. I need 3 and I wasn’t about to spend more on failure and Firestorm gives a bonus to armor HP and a penalty to thermal resistance. I would deal bonus damage to the ships. That went pretty well. I looted and got it done in less than half the time allowed. I lost one of 4 drones and 300 ISK damages on two. I dumped my gains at dock returned to my saved point and did an Exotic next. Lost the ship in the second room.

The result is not great from my perspective. I lost about 2 million and made 3.8 million on the items looted… assuming I continue to do TZ Firestorms with the build, I would profit about 3 million every 10 minutes or 18 million per hour. I can farm gas for 1 hour in a venture. Assuming the venture survives, I would mine 500 units of Verm Myko x 45K and profit 20 million. Seems about the same all around. The mining is just less interactive.
