I would like to suggest adding a short disconnect grace timer for Abyssal sites.
The issue is not that a disconnect instantly destroys the ship. Abyssal sites already have a strict 20-minute timer, and in higher-tier Abyssal content every minute matters. A short disconnect, client crash or temporary network interruption can make the site impossible to complete even if the player reconnects, because the Abyssal timer continues to run while the player is offline.
My suggestion is to introduce a limited disconnect grace mechanic. For example, if a player disconnects inside an Abyssal site, the site could allow up to 5 minutes of reconnect protection, either by pausing or partially compensating the Abyssal timer during that disconnect window.
To prevent abuse, this protection could be limited by strict rules:
it can only trigger once per Abyssal site
it applies to an actual disconnect or client crash
it has a maximum duration, for example 5 minutes
it does not make the ship invulnerable if NPCs or environmental effects are still applying damage
if the player does not reconnect within the grace period, normal Abyssal timer rules apply
The goal would not be to make Abyssal sites safer or easier. The goal would be to reduce losses caused purely by short technical interruptions, while preserving the intended difficulty, combat risk and time pressure of Abyssal content.
No. Because there is no distinction on what constitutes a DC, whether you do it, or it happens from a bad node or cloudflare, ccp has stated no exceptions to abyss
Yes please. I still dunno why people think this is some “I am dying, save me” strategy… And shouldn’t matter if you logout or if you dc…
The only way I see this being an issue would be at close to dt… instead of starting at 17mins left till dt you could start at like 23mins? lol And upon dt, servers already just eject you into space… so its still not a different “save me” feature…
My point is not that CCP should decide which disconnects are “real”. The mechanic could be designed so that the cause of the disconnect does not matter, because the benefit is strictly limited and cannot be used as a free escape, room reset or safety mechanic.
The question is whether a limited reconnect grace mechanic can be designed without making intentional disconnects useful.
There is also a player experience issue here. Abyssal sites require expensive ships, strict timing and a high level of preparation. Losing a ship because of a bad decision, bad piloting or a difficult spawn is part of the risk. But losing a ship because of a short technical interruption feels very different.
This can discourage players from running Abyssal content, or even from trying it in the first place, because they know they can lose expensive assets due to something outside their control. A limited reconnect grace mechanic could make the content feel less punishing for technical issues, without removing the intended combat risk.
