Abyssal Space Help

I’m not exactly a “new” player per se but I have been passively playing eve over the years not really doing too much. I’ve got tired of mission running so I decided to try my hand at Abyssal Space. Ran a lvl 3 firestorm filament a few minutes ago and an exotic a few months back and I lost both my Gila ships in it. I waited until I got my ship to level 5 and ran this new one and got wrecked.

Thought I had a good build, was pumping out around 1300 dps (800 ship, 500 drones) and idk what happened. If I don’t know which ships to prioritize or what but my cap was at zero and I just got annihilated after only killing 3 ships.

What gives? What am I doing wrong? At this point I’ve sunk and lost a ridiculous amount of ISK into these ships with no gain at all.

Do I need to indentify and prioritize targeting? If so how do I get the information quickly to start the engagement with minimal time lost?

I have also been experimenting with Abyssals but I’ve started with an Onyx in L1s, to get a feel for the different things that go down. The idea is I run 10 or so of these with different effects (dark, electrical etc) so I know what to expect as I step up.

One immediate difference is cap neutralising, so I have adjusted my fit and instead of a cap battery pr cap recharger, I’ve fitted a cap booster, and waiting to see how that pans out, but I expect to be able to overcome a neut when the time comes.

Interesting, I’ll probably do the same running L1 I just figured with my setup I ran the L3 in I would have been able to just roll right through it without any problem at all.

Absolutely don’t expect to roll through any of these. There are those who can, I’m sure, but I like to take tentative steps into these things. I will basically do all the variants of L1 before moving to L2, and then follow the same procedure in like fashion.

The main thing now is dialling in my fittings and figuring out the enemy’s weaknesses.

Thanks for the tip. Out of curiosity how many ships have you lost running abyssal space? I’m currently getting another Gila ready and fit to give firestorm another shot but at L1.

Since I’ve started up again recently, one so far and it was a doozy. I took an Exequror Navy Issue in with blasters. Got this one ship in the last room was too fast even with tracking mods, ended up self destructing my pod.

At present I’m in a Cerberus and it’s quite smooth, faster and toothier than the Onyx. This is probably what I’m going to try to do the L2s in.

Very nice! I just ran a L1 firestorm abyss with no problem on my new gila fit. Was probably pretty slow, only had 3 minutes to spare and I couldn’t get the extra drops just the main one’s floating in space. Took to much time to travel to each loot station.

It’s fun to experiment on your own, but if you want to make your life easier by learning from others’ experience, here’s a very useful site:

So I took the Cerberus into a L2, and died in the last room due to time. I was not able to apply enough damage quickly enough to get through the 12 or so frigates in the pocket.

The loot had been notably crap up to that point, being no different in quality or quantity to the L1.

The Cerberus had HAM 2s with scourge rage 2s. 801 dps. The rest of the fit was pretty standard, but I had a cap booster installed; this did prove helpful but ultimately I just wasn’t cutting through fast enough. The first two pockets, by comparison, had been a walk over.

I think the Cerberus still has legs as it held it’s tank reasonably well, albeit up until I was drenched in frigates, then it did start to crack, but I’ll need to find a way to increase the damage.

Notably, there was warp disruption from the ships in the first pocket, so might swap the MWD for an afterburner next time. I might also swap the cap recharger for a shield boost amplifier, to get a bit extra towards the end.

Don’t think that site is up anymore. Not loading for me at least.

Very nice. I don’t remember exactly what I’m running but I think I have a cap booster and definitely some tank mods on it, one that adds tank to all damage types and another for firestorm that increases thermal shielding by 60% couple that with a shield recharge and it’s pretty solid. Can’t remember my exact setup though.

I did start running L3 firestorms last night though but I ended up dying and losing over 200m isk worth of loot because there was a pylon that would destroy my missiles right in front of the portal to the next zone. Which killed all 10 of my drones over time and I didn’t realize that I needed to get in really close to the last ship in order to damage it that was within the pylons range protecting it, before it was too late.

Ridiculous lesson learned of RNG placement.

Works just fine for me. Maybe use a different browser?

hm. weird. it doesn’t work on either of my browsers on the computer but it works on my phone. Great site though, thank you! Gamma runs look like they get the most isk out of them. But why are the frigate values on the loot tables higher than the other ship types? Is it because they cost less to outfit, so their profit margins are greater?
