Adding "Ice Moons"

Hello,

I think it’s time we look at allowing ice moons to come alive in the game. It allows players to ice mine off these moons. Rock gets pulled out to space and it gets broken down into ice belts.

What do you think about this as a future option?

It’s time we work hard to keep adding new content to the game!
See yea in space!

Would it be profitable? If it were, how might that affect the economy?

I only ask because I do know that ice mining is very popular in its current format - multi-boxed to hell and back - so it seems to me that there might be issues.

No, ice belts are good as is. Moons are good as is.

More or less it would add more ice belts which have not happen in 15 years in this game and add another option then just reg moon poo. Could be a good reason to fight over these moons in 0.5 space and add extra layer of mining for these who don’t want to mine ice belts.

I get it. Perhaps there’s a reason more ice hasn’t been added in all that time; after all, didn’t they splurge asteroids not so long ago? I’ll watch, with interest.

More ice would decrease the pressure of fuel costs on the anchored structure count. That was basically why I mined it and why I thought it was worthwhile. Isotopes were also used as jump drive fuel, as I recall, so more ice would make that cheaper and easier if there isn’t already a surplus.

Take this with a huge grain of salt, though, since I don’t know anything about the supply and demand of goods in groups larger than about 5 people playing one character each.

Seems CCP would LOVE this idea. They have a mega hardon for ■■■■■■■ miners

Let’s ask our local Ice Mining Expert @Felix_Frostpacker what he thinks about this idea.

This could be the perfect opportunity to add ice harvesting crystals and residue loss for mining ice chunks.

I know nothing about it, Felix. The only ice belts I’ve seen in Highsec looked as if they would be mined-out in minutes. To make the addition of crystals and residue loss worth it (for the miners), there would definitely have to be more ice made available.

Imagine if you could only purchase the good yield crystals from the Safety. alliance loyalty points store. :upside_down_face: :smiling_imp:

It would be difficult (to add residue as a mechanic to ice) since you only get 1 block of ice per cycle, and there’s only one whole number lower than 1.

More ice was added to the game. When the buffed asteroid size did ice not get buffed as well?

They could turn this into a slot machine similar to salvaging with a chance at the end of each cycle for the miner to receive the block of ice that cycle or not. Better crystals would have greater chance for success.

I don’t mean to say it’s impossible to do, but they have to either change the ice drastically to make it compatible with the existing system, or come up with a completely new system to simulate waste that applies to ice as it already exists. Both choices are kind of a pain in the butt, plus the extra labor to invent all these other modules. All for a feature that I don’t really see anyone cheering for of having an appreciation of.

If they could just slap it on, maybe, but history tells me CCP is more likely to implement a feature half way than it is to implement a feature twice over.

We would have too change it from one block to same amount of worth we would get from reg mining. 1100 per load of ore but inside would be ice products.

i’m not seeing anything relating to that… if anything resource distribution lowered the spawn rate…

There will be a chance to fail extraction in a cycle.

/ like if we add more ice n many systems, then there must also be a balance between full extraction vs 30 to 60 % failure to extract.

Note by adding Ice moons would lower the risk of ship losses mining the ice in New Eden

Currently waste for most stuff is that it has an x% chance to waste as much as you mined (except for C-types maybe but no one uses those for actual mining) so it could simply have a 34% chance to remove 2 blocks from the roid while giving you one.

Ah. OK. That does seem feasible, then. I should have known better since I had read thats how it worked a long time ago, but apparently forgot that waste is randomly mining twice as fast and only getting half of it because of space magic.
