As an alpha only character who hasn’t spent a dime on the game with over 400 solo kills, I am very appreciative. When I’m in a more financially stable position, I can play more and pay more, and even while I’m not paying I’m still contributing value.
As an aggressive, friendly, and talkative pilot in FW, I provide good fights for people and encourage them to keep trying.
I have bought about 1050 Plex off the market over all time, this was bought by players and is at minimum $25 total revenue for CCP (because they still get the sale on the Plex, the isk transfer means nothing).
I am a good, obedient target in WH space, I’m an engaging T1 frigate duelist in the trade hubs, and I have told 6 people about the game who’ve started playing, 2 of whom are still.
Alphas are very good for the game, enabling red safety is not. Would I like to be able to use my Burst Jam Scythe in Highsec, sure! However, alpha Catalysts are a scourge. I do appreciate that I can fire off that sweet sweet burst jammer in lowsec, free fire on capsules, Smartbomb everything I can see…
I had an idea recently for a change to alpha behavior with safety red. The idea is to have any time you undock in high sec, login in high sec, or board a ship in high sec, your safety switches to yellow if it was red previously. That means that you can go to lowsec to set safety red and come back, but you can’t log out, dock, or leave ship without having to do it again. Some Alphas would really like Smartbombs in niche situations such as ratting, and Smartbombs in duels. It would give gank targets an easy way to scout the logged in and decloaked Catalysts, and the setup would be much more tedious. All in all, it sounds flawed but would be very interesting.
