Exactly. As a consumer I do one of two things: I buy a companies product because it passes my cost-benefit analysis, or I do not. Arguments along the lines of “if you cannot afford X then Y” or “companies need money to stay afloat” are superfluous to the critical consumer: in fact, such a consumer might regard the userbase of a particular product to be just a little too enamoured with their skinner box. From the consumer side, the question becomes do I really want pay this prince just to swim with the whales?
I don’t think the scenario you speak of ever actually arises.
A humble Amarr Cruiser, for example, has a 25% turret damage bonus for every level of Amarr Cruiser. OK so it takes 23 days to train Level V, but once you do, your 3 lasers exceed that of the 5 turret laser Gnosis in damage by quite a bit.
Thus the most experienced and highest SP players simply aren’t going to be preferring to fly the SOCT ships. I already fly the Navy Augoror ( level V skills ) in preference to a Gnosis…and it is cheaper, faster, and has more tank !
I actually have lots of ships other than the Gnosis. The biggest issue is the point at which they are ‘better’. The Phantasm, for example, is excellent in all respects except for 320m ISK it has quite low tank…to give just one example. I consider the Phantasm overly expensive. …and of course my decision as to what to fly is based on risk/cost.
Simply counting the number of slots is probably erroneous. Ships like Gnosis have crap capacitor, so a capacitor booster is an essential. They don’t have particularly good sensors, so I always add a sensor booster. By the time you’ve fitted MWD ( its dreadfully slow with afterburner ) you have little left for tank…indeed my Gnosis average around 37K EHP. And indeed, if you are going to fit all the above plus tank modules…where’s the room for a webifier and warp scram ?
Even the much touted unfair advantage of the dual X-Large Shield Booster Gnosis ( the only other ship I’ve so far found that can manage two is the Rokh, though there’s probably others ) omits that it has crap DPS and very short range ( under 1000m optimal range with autocannons ).
Is that so?
Gnosis / Myrmidon / Ferox / Cyclone all have 2900 base capacitor
Drake and Hurricane have even less (2500/2300)
Only Harbinger, Brutix and Prophecy have more, 2 of them being Amarr that are in desperate need of capacitor if using lasers. Brutix always being short range and in danger of being neuted quickly whilte its main weapon system mandatory needs cap as well. And all of them have a lot less medslots than the Gnosis to solve cap issues.
Get your facts straight man, the Gnosis is pretty well in shape with its base cap of 2900 AND having 6 medslots.
So nerf the ship into the ground so that the other Omega ships are all better. Or buff the Omega ship bonuses (per skill level) so that they’re better.
We already have a severe imbalance between ships as it is. A battlecruiser with 400 DPS and 27,000 EHP with crap resistances isn’t that game breaking. But hey, if that bothers ya then maybe it and all no-skill ships should be seriously nerfed.
What I’d really like to know is how much $ Alphas actually bring to the table.
Sigh. Simply comparing raw capacitor is absurd. The Gnosis has crap capacitor for what I actually want it to do. Those 5 turrets use up 1000 power grid units to get less DPS than a Navy Augoror gets using 3 turrets and 600 power grid units. Perhaps if you listened rather than lecturing from your high and mighty perch.
Yeah thats the epitome of stupid argumentation. Thanks for the laugh. And your NavyAugoror Comparison is even more stupid, given the boni and slotlayout that ship has, being a Navy cruiser.
Here’s the thing, spanky. You are not the only one playing.
Look at the big picture. What the other 30,000 characters also logged in at any given time are doing and what would be good for them as a whole. Not how everything affects you, and only you.
Mr Epeen
You need to ask the most important question. WHY is it an issue to Aisha ? Get past all the pretence of caring about noobs, etc. Why would anyone care that a 100m ISK Gnosis can blap a 140m ISK Harbinger…in a game where a 4m ISK Condor can blap a 100m ISK Gnosis ?
Gosh…and I’m the one thinking they know what’s best for everyone ? Pray tell us, oh great Lord Of The Universe, what is good for everyone. Let me guess . Making more profit for you.
That’s exactly my point. I don’t care. There’s so much ship imbalance in this game that it absolutely doesn’t matter. A Catalyst can get 1,000 DPS while many larger ships struggle to get that much. And then when one does, everyone cries and it gets nerfed. So my solution is to just say nerf everything. It’s the CCP way.
And neither should you, given that 90% of the ‘problems’ in the game don’t really exist and are just theorycrafted from the ivory towers of people who spend too much time in dock.
Oh for God’s sake. What part of having a task to do and simply wanting the best ship for the job is too hard for you to grasp ?? You excel yourself in your weasely way with distorting what other people have said.
You spelled forum wrong.
Mr Epeen
If I had my way, ship tracking would be greatly improved so much that you wouldn’t see a group of T1 destroyers taking out an XL ship without extreme losses. With things like range and tracking and fall-off etc… a group of destroyers with T1 modules is far more threatening than a group of large slow moving behemoths with advanced modules and guns. This game doesn’t make any sense. I’m flying a ship called a drone boat that can fit 30 drones of all sizes but can only launch 5 at a time? I’m still trying to figure out why my Proteus (T3 Cruiser) can hold 5 large, 5 medium, 5 small, 5 salvage and have room for extra drones in case I lose some but a Kronos (Marauder- top of the line Battleship) can only hold 2 large drones before its hold is absolutely full. One is way larger than the other. I know that tracking is based on movement and small ships move quickly, but this isn’t Star Wars. We don’t have Storm Troopers manning the guns. They’re done by computer control. Our ships don’t have crews. My T3 cruiser with medium guns has trouble hitting small ships. Thank goodness for its ability to launch 5 of the 20+ drones it’s always carrying!
Like I said- all ships are unbalanced. This entire game makes no sense. I just pick a ship that looks cool and I use it for any missins I fly. When that ship begins to lose, I look for a new one and keep going. I avoid 1v1 PvP because in this game, it’s stupid.
No, I just have Typing While Warping Between Stargates…level V
Right now I am in Aufay…heading for Deltole.
As you’re nearby don’t forget to pay a visit to Parchanier and grab your free 4500 PLEX before the Frostpacker does so.
There are counter-measures to that. My ship fittings have changed drastically on applying such measures. Suspect hunting outside Jita is probably one of the best educations in the game.
It isn’t. The “best ship” however should always be one of the racial ships and never be a SoCT ship that needs no ship skill SP and is considerably cheaper. Thats the whole discussion about. They are OP for their price and skill requirements and should be toned down to always being inferior to a well-skilled racial ship (of their own class of course). Nobody cares for inter-class imbalances, because they are completely situational. Even an Ibis can kill Titan given the right circumstances, that is not what a balancing discussion is about. But you look at the whole thing only from your ego-perspective, jumping in with straight wrong facts (proven above) and arguing with stupid comparisons that are completely irrelevant for the greater picture. Oh, and throwing in random “evil intentions” accusations of mysterious traders that want to change the ship balance for their ISK profits…
