We have Gunjack, Sparc and Valkyrie still running and despite the VR market not having matured fast enough for our liking they’re doing relatively well. But EVE currently dwarfs them all obviously.
What role in new products…hard to say exactly at this point but I think we can get a lot of super valuable help on mobile products for example. Another thing that I think is really cool is that they strongly belive that MMOs have big future and that gamers will start seeking out deeper experiences. Many see MMOs as having already had their golden age but it doesn’t make sense to me because tech will allow us to do things soon that we could only dream of before and I think big gaming worlds will benefit immensely from that.
This I can understand, and I can agree with your perspective here.
There are however two things which appear to nag people still.
PA is publicly traded. Asian business mindset. Bottom line > all.
It is the exact same perspective PA’s publishers for BDO had, shared, believed. PA’s BDO customers in EMEA and US tradezones bought into this perspective. Yet at the end of the day, PA just walked all over it. Not once, but consistantly. And recently again. Outside of Asian markets.
I do think you underestimate the instrument of normalisation. Human interaction with humans and environment is an exchange of stimuli for influencing. See in the other topic, boiling frogs It’s why F2P received no Summer of Rage, it is also why core indicators of CCP’s Financial Statement were reinforced quite decently after some, well, changes and corners.
This may shock you, but it would not be hard to gradually change those operational dependancies from behaviour to a commercial-mechanistic model. All it takes is small steps and careful cycles. CCP has demonstrated to be very good at it PA however also, except they do not care one bit about community relations (demonstrably). Unlike CCP.
The issue here is a perception problem. I know that as long as CCP performs as it has done, this is never going to be an issue. But well, perception problems cause rot. Every little stumble EVE’s had as a brand came down to not handling a given perception problem optimally.
The root is that people do not trust PA. The complication is that a lot of people find their model abhorrent. And thirdly there’s the new structure. One has to keep in mind that there’s a ton of people playing EVE for whom none of this is marketing, but just daily stuff
I was just wondering as I have only started really playing this game this year, but does the new influx of cash from this deal have any impact on say, your future plans for Eve Online future content? Maybe with the new resources a bigger expansion in the near future you can devote to?
What is the potential for multiple mobile apps based on the EVE IP in the near future?
It’s no secret that Pearl Abyss have a LOT of mobile experience. Right now we’ve got projects for mobile ongoing with Netease and Playraven.
There’s no plans to change what we’re doing right now as far as I’m aware, but I’m hoping personally that we can certainly see some cool mobile stuff for EVE down the line. It’s really too early to say at this stage though.
What is the status of the mobile app CCP is already working on?
It’s going good, you’ll find out more at Vegas, if I remember right.
Does it appear that CCP will work exclusively on EVE-IP related stuff going forward including mobile apps, or is it likely that Pearl will take on EVE IP mobile app development in their own studio or via another spin-off/subsidiary?
Too early to say really, but the plan is for CCP to continue to do what we do best - spaceships
Are there plans to relocate CCP devs or management to Pearl’s HQ offices?
There are no plans to relocate us, beyond the plan that’s already in place for our office to move location within Reykjavik in 2019/2020 to a new building that’s currently being constructed for us.
It’d be a massive undertaking anyway, moving so many nerds and all their stuff around
For the investors it was a logical conclusion to investing in a small gaming company a long time ago. But I think they also wanted to find a good home for CCP and Hilmar worked very well towards that goal I feel.
I don’t know what you mean by us favoring a group of people…I don’t think we do that.
As far as road maps go…we’ll continue making the best updates to EVE we can and announcing them in the coolest way possible (on Hoboleaks)
