Ammar v Rattlesnake take-down

Hey there, using Ammar ships (Armageddon, Harbie etc.)
What’s my best shot at taking down a Rattlesnake in a 1v1 duel in high sec.
Great laser and drone skills,
Poor missile skills.

You should probably use lasers and drones, and avoid using missiles.

I have tried, but failed. I wondered if you had a better setup… Ya ■■■■■■■ comedian.

I’d suggest something like this. Rattlesnakes are extremely tough targets, as are their drones. The web/grapple combo is to give your drones (and guns) the best chance at tracking if they deploy a gecko. Make immediate use of your heavy neuts (I’d suggest heating from the start), as your only real chance to beat them is to get their cap as low as possible as soon as possible. Distract them by pressuring their tank with your drones + neuts, and use the grapple/web/guns combo to shoot their drones (use multifreq for better tracking)

Good luck :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thanks, I’ll let you know how I get on (y)

EvE-Mail me. You can win that duel.

Untill the rattle snake is Dual or even triple XL ASB fit and your nuets do nothing to him. Ide say your best chance against a rattlesnake in amarr battle ships is the nightmare or pali past that your win chances in a solo encounter are 45% at best.

Still turns off his hardeners/any neuts he has.

Depending on his skills and fit - with a good passive fit, he could take 1891 damage/sec before you break his shield tank.
(Also its possible to get a combined Active (Hardeners)/Passive Tank with over 3200 damage/sec tanking and impossible to neut the capacitor solo, but thats a 58b cost fit, so super rare)

Do you make such high damage?

Even with this high passive tank, he could make 891 damage/sec on you (missiles and drones).

Can you tank or prevent that damage?

Now ask yourself if you win…

Nobody would actually fly that in pvp. It’s soo easy to cap out, it has no tackle, no prop mod, no dps mods…

“Max theoretical passive tank” has very little to do with an actual combat situation.

Easy to cap out, yes, but doesnt matter, you dont need a cap in this fit.
Its a pure PvE fit, nevertheless, hard to beat in a duel. There is no use for it in a battle and no tank on earth would keep it from getting shredded against a gang - but this thread is about duel, isnt it?

I got no real clue about PvP in EVE, but Im wondering how kong can a usual PvP fit stand a chance against a pure passive tank, who got all time of the world to beat his opponent, that usually has no good tanking ability and cant get the passive tank down?

As I said, I got no clue… my experience in PvP is gained in other PvP games. But some kind of rule always apply in every game:

  • be fast and agile (avoid damage)
  • or tank damage with as much HP as possible
  • or outheal damage
  • or stay hidden and ambush and dont get cought while doing it
  • or debuff your opponent, so he cant damage you

Solo PvP follows other rules than team PvP, but EVE seem to be more team oriented, beside the duel option. So for a duel in a Rattlesnake I’d prefer the tank option, but I already know that doesnt work in team PvP.

A variation using autocannons - Capless, have better tracking, slightly more DPS and alpha.
Afterburner allows slightly better range control.
Disruptor over Scrambler - Stops the possibility of MJD if something burns more than 10K out.
Drone choice - Preators + web vs Rattles drones, once you defang it switch to Ogres (or a couple of Geckos if you want to spend the isk - Omni damage is good).
Start out with guns and Neuts on Ship, drones on drones.

It doesn’t matter because without any kind of warp disruption fitted on the Rattlesnake, its opponent can just leave.

Disruptors do not stop MJDs, only scrams do.

I personally dont mind if my opponent leaves and comes back with something bigger - as long as I dont bite the dust, due to a breaking tank… but thats me… I dont speak for others
