Another cloak/mwd thread

Is that one of those cases where the tackle lives in the server room in london or wherever?

Could be, I have a great ping to London but it could be better. The key is to do everything you can to minimise the risk but accept that you are never 100% safe.

Enough reason to track a new personal statistic. Well, all in all this was very educational, so thank you once again.

You’re welcome and happy hauling.

It has to do with command priority queues that are set by session changes. It is possible to lock and scram in the same server tick, and if your session has priority then your commands within a tick are executed first, which is how things are caught with less than 2 ticks of visibility. These arbitrary session priorities were introduced to eliminate the “living in London” advantage so anyone can be top of priority given a decent latency internet connection.

The cloak+MWD trick is very good but not perfect, don’t let Posh Wynoa’s ignorance propagate.

It may be worth looking at a faction cloak to make the mwd cloak trick easier and more reliable on ships with bad agility like DSTs.

This fit has worked for a while on my less than max navigation skill DST pilot. I think you do require the ISTABs in the lows for the align to be lower than the MWD cycle time.

If you’re caught you’re dead, not even 1600 plates will save you.

Agree. Unless it’s for high sec and trying to tank until Concord saves the day, I don’t see the point.

This is basically an exploit that CCP is too lazy to patch out of the game.

I agree, it does feel like an exploit indeed, this ‘emergent gameplay’ of pulsing a propmod while cloaked to warp away immediately after decloaking.

I wonder how the game would look like if it were fixed (for example by turning off the speed bonus of a propmod when cloaked).

However, CCP is aware of this trick and has told us it is not an exploit:

They don’t define it as an exploit, but fundamentally, it is an exploit. It has no counter-play aside from its user executing it improperly. It’s simply impossible to catch someone who’s using this “trick” unless you’re countering it with enough people to cover a gate so that cloaking is impossible, which is not a valid counter-play solution.

I don’t use it myself, and go out of my way to kill players who do.

best part… what was about the ships for money in eve shop?

CCP is the one that sets and enforces the rules. They can break it as much as they can.

That doesn’t mean selling ships for money isn’t undermining the pillars of their game, but CCP can do anything they want with those rules.

i wouldnt say so, its an agreement that is signed by both sides and even thats a game, there are sam rules for all

CCP is the one that sets the rules. They’re the ones that enforce the rules, or change the rules. Do you really think they’re held to the same rules?

Example: it is not allowed to sell ingame assets to 3rd parties for real life money. Yet CCP sells PLEX for real life money! Not allowed! Wow.

The rules CCP sets are for us, the players.

Ive always wondered what the braking effect is .

Id always assumed cloaks were advanced optical devices and the reason they have diffrent speed inhabitions is that complexities of gathering and projecting the light data at higher velocities is troublsome , hence only the best cloaks can do it .

Now when you engage the mwd what is stopping the Newtons force forward from moving you ?whats the equal and opposite force , ’ the brake ’ .

In game terms a cloak inhibits speed but surely that must be some sort of thrust limiter for the purpose of not ruining the illusion . The mwd / cloaky trick seems to imply you gain a massive amount of mass or traction for the catapult effect of shutting the cloak off to work .

EVE don’t use Newton laws in it’s “physic” simulations.

Just chased a hauler doing this for a few jumps. He was smack-talking me the entire way.

Is there any actual counter-play method available to deal with this? I’ve caught people doing this before, but every time was because they either screwed up (e.g. uncloaked too fast by accident), or because I spawned too close for them to cloak (this happened exactly once as the odds of this happening, even at a small gate, are exceptionally low).

If this is a literal way to ensure invulnerability when traveling, why has it been in the game for so long?

You have at least, whole 10s to decloak and tackle.
