Look, if I could get the guys together, online at one time, who actually know how to fly the ships and who have paid up subs… I guess it might be feasible to fly defensive style.
But the reality is that, if you have the organizational skills in the world of space nerds, and you can get the guys together to fly escort… you can get a gate camp together and blap other nerds all day.
Eve is a game where the other guys blow you up because they had less to do that day.
Try to remember that story about the great sage from the east, who while walking in the bamboo forest came across a hungry bear, and who said something nobody remembers because he was promptly eaten.

Yes, but consider the implications of charging for protection
and its feasibility
as outlined above
and how you sustain yourself if you don’t like the implications, or if you find it I not feasible,
for reasons outlined above.
The technical question can be tested on sis but it will come down to x amount of gankers doing x amount of dps in given sec requires x amount of logi/ecm
Real world you have to put yourself in the position to be right side of the equation.
If you protect specific freighters who agree payment in advance- you either fail because your numbers are known and they bring n+1
Or you protect your target because they avoid you but someone else dies instead.
So I suggest the idea that you protect whoever you can over a section of pipe, charge them afterwards, and then if they don’t pay for your services…
The majority of gank operations already have surplus DPS… multiboxers aside… because no one wants to miss out, and then have to sit out the GCC timer of the others before the next gank.
Whereas if AG embraced the reality of eve, which is that Concord could bring logi if they wanted to protect those unwary enough to get attacked, and used any and all means at their disposal to target the SG groups,
because they accepted that they AG are vigilantes, and were actually interfering in an officially sanctioned police action by protecting the unwary (potentially making more work for Concord if they don’t educate and only protect)
they might at least have a platform on which to get numbers and make some content.
But if one is against Suicide Ganking in principle, such that one will not use the technique against ones enemies, this I do not understand.
And if one is charging for protection, and one is not the police, then isn’t that a protection racket, especially if you don’t inform your ‘customers’ that they can take steps themselves to minimise risk and must also factor some loss into business costs, such that your service is unnecessary.
And if one is running a protection racket, why not actually run a protection racket?

I mean have a logi/ecm group and a gank fleet logged off on a pipe, try to intercept and ‘save a freighter’, if you fail you fail, if you succed
the freighter pays you say 500mil or %of cargo saved (you would scan while ‘protecting’ obviously)
or you log on your own gank fleet and do the job yourself.
I don’t see ‘protection’ working otherwise in a sustainable way.

To make something absolutely clear:
A) I’m not an AG “spokesman” or anykind of representative. This thread is about AG methods etc, not my own views. What is below, however, IS my own views.
B) I honestly couldn’t give a rat turd about HS miners. Frankly, they are some of the laziest/greediest players of all EVE. There are so many other belts they could be mining, yet they choose to mine where map stats show they are most likely to be exploded. That is their own fault, and their own choice. Not AGs. Good riddance and by all means, blow them up to your hearts content.
C) There is no isk in “escorting” miners. If they wont pay CODE 10mil, I dont expect they will pay that to an escort either, and certainly not for any duration of time to make it worthwhile.
D) I have absolutely zero sympathy for untanked/overloaded/auto-piloting HS haulers. As above, its their own goddam fault if they get ganked, and AG isn’t going to lift a finger to help them. If you find someone hauling like this, go ahead and blow them up with extreme prejudice and o7 to you for doing so.
E) What I propose for AG, is not that they protect the lazy, ignorant or greedy from their own choices. Thats their own fault.
F) What I propose for AG, is that those that do care about their own protection from ganks, and take precautions, can co-operate with AG so as to help them achieve their goals even more securely.
G) AG is not, and should not be, a savior of the stupid/lazy/greedy.
It should be protector of those that already cover their own asses, but want a little more protection ontop.
H) AG may be able to provide free info to the stupid, IF they look for it, so they know better thereafter. But that’s it.
I hope I’ve made myself very clear with the above.
What I am proposing for AG, is NOT what many of you might think at first.

AG Methods have been talked about, posted etc to death. Really.
They are out there on the internet to find for someone that bothers to look.
But then someone that posts about Command Destroyer problem and possibilities although Command Destroyers do not work in high sec… probably isn’t bothered / hasn’t bothered to look up the miles of information and posts and strategies and information that is already out there.
Let me make one thing perfectly clear. The fact that you are repeating everything is why we are laughing.

The best ones are when the miner (for example) AFK mines and we can get him afterwards when the timer is out!
