Are all the corps the same?

And this is why new player retention is so low imo. Not that mining is bad, but that people SAY mining is bad. A constant flow of negativity from veteran players “don’t do this, don’t do that” despite the game allowing you to do almost literally anything

Do we play this game to have fun, or make ISK?

I play to have fun. Most of the time that means doing things that aren’t 100% profitable. The people I now play with do the same, and it’s the most fun I’ve had in New Eden in 10 years

Based on my conversations with new bros, they seem less interested in straight isk and more interested in figuring out the interface and how to find all the buttons. Hell, I’m still learning the buttons.

Are you new player ? Or veteran ? This is very important question …
im a veteran
Spent years on rookie chat… thousads of hours… Its very very very rare someone told new players mining is on the last in list as isk per hour as new player… Opposite… with orebuyback programs from new pilots many null sec aliances has high sec rookie herding corporations… questions in Rookie help channel floooded by questions about mining … and isk grinding …this is a “fact” that every new pilot acknowlege .not my subjective idea

I have to say that you are implying wrong stuff to wrong person here… @Mister_Jekyll AS a constant NEGATIViTY flooding VETERAN :

I do take new pilots eager to learn PvP . Its expensive for very new pilot so we finance their all learning progress and we introduce all different kinds of making isk… and give them plent plenty time out of practice fights and classes … they can go figure out try everything see what you enjoy most… so they wont have any is grinding concerns else then finding their own way to figure out what they enjoy to do in eve online… because when they find out they love and when you do something you love isk runs self … when they learn survive learn fight back and become slef sufficient … they garduate and good to go to do whatever in their heart …

Your phrasing is indicative of the problem in this community. We assume everyone is either a vet or a newbro, when in reality many many people know bits and pieces about what it is they do. I just had a 10 year vet SWEAR to me that compressed ore is more valuable, and we’ll be fools to not compress it. Well compressing it cut the value down by 4x, because it cut the volume down. Took a 4mil ore hold and turned it into 800k, because I followed the advice of someone who “knew more than me”

This isn’t an isolated incident, it’s constant. People think they know something about this game and they’re wrong, and unapologetic in their wrongness.

I’ve been playing on an off for 10 years. I understand the core mechanics of the game quite well (power/cpu load, DPS, EHP, traversing fire, angular velocity, etc). But the execution of those mechanics is what I lack, simply because I haven’t played THAT much

with orebuyback programs

Newbies don’t know what this means, hell I barely knew what it meant until a few weeks ago, after having vets “explain it” to me (by explain it, I mean give a vague and non-descript summary of “just sell it to me”). New players don’t want to have it explained to them, they just started a game about flying a spaceship… “buyback programs” are what the car dealership does

Its expensive for very new pilot so we finance their all learning progress and we introduce all different kinds of making isk

How many of those pilots stay playing though? I’m genuinely curious. I mean, if it works it works, and I’ll adapt to whatever works, but it seems when people are handed things in this game they get bored easily

(to answer your question, I have been playing on and off since 2013, yet I have never made a PVP kill, hence the weird “limbo” I’m in)

I guess, I’m a “casual” EvE player if there is such a thing

We have extremely hight retention rate … and many pilots tells oud loudly that if they havent hit us they had been out of game long time ago… Also our graduates even would like to contribute one of them donated today simoly enough amount for us to finance 1 pilot all the way … after graduate academy and he made his way to Curse… and other one went for WH and with two wery long mails that full of support sugestions and thanks …

We dont handed ever everything easily if they want to learn they have to go all the way down fittings mechanics tactics learn piloting strategies… these are great challenges and so far even 1 week old pilot grab the theory fast and enjoy to get infights and observe all those things and try and experiment … only learning engagement profile takes pretty long time and understanding their fit and begin to learn to make their own fits… well they don’t have place to get bored so much as long as they interested… even though we are PvP corp we have some people who figured out love mining most but they don’t want to leave either due to community so i just buy back their stuff direct trade pay the best Jita to sell price … and official… if i buy stuff from Jita im gonna pay the same amount anyway… they keep the all-market tax broker fee and ■■■■ in their pocket and I’m enjoying to buy stuff by giving CCP single Zilch…

i havent made an assumption i just wanted to know if you are a veteran or not… reason i had asked because you made a generalisation about veterans … So I would like to hear these comments coming from vet or not… thats all. not for judging but for learning.

I think the way you are handling this game is simply beautiful… wish I could just do that … but conditions bring me another point… and seems like i cant come out of it for a long time …

I do teach how to catch fish … but im not starving people when they learn how to catch fish … or say go to forest and chop some trees to make a fishing stick loose time …

there is beautifull incredibly intelligent and brillant people in this game… They are also mostly casual because they have real lifes they want to enjoy the game learn fast and practice well …

So i give them all kind fo fishing rod examples… and create content and space for them so they can fish as much as they want…
and i give them social context they can sit side by side with veterans and talk all day night as much as they can or want … so thy are talking about all kind of hings and fish together…
meanwhile, we do teach them how to make fishing rods … meanwhile, they figure out what kind of rods technique and what type of water they enjoy to fish … They ask when they want to know… they join classes when they would like to… they join fleets when they up to… No CTA nothing… and no profit purpose on any actions …

As last out of experience with hundreds and thousands of rookies… and As specialist about human nature … some people doesnt want help just because of their narcissistic ego cannot handle with… and some people doesnt want help because they really enjoy discovering all themselves … and they dont even run tutorials lol… i do respect the second type… about the first type… the split second i see it… i pull my range and drop my point… because rarely a good comes out of it for the community…

New players doesnt have know what does it means… they are pulling into this system without knowing it name and since they are mostly tabula rasa they just accept the situation like part of the game and they dont even stand up … Its not what car dealerships does… ITs what EVE online many Aliance and corp managements does…

well its of course play this game hardcore for over a decade and lead one of the oldest community and 12 years forever war… and not knowing something about this game …
something i have to deal with … God bless that 3 corporation tradition and legacy :stuck_out_tongue: seem like they screwed and doomed !

I wish I could tell you, I’m realizing I don’t really know what defines “veteran” these days. Is it someone who’s just played for a long time? Cause I was here in 2013 to 2015, but I stopped, started again in 2016, stopped again a few months later, and now have started again. I certainly don’t feel like a veteran lol. So, what do you think, am I a veteran, or a newbro? Or is there a 3rd class of player that never gets talked about haha

I do teach how to catch fish

Thank goodness someone does! Hahah thank you for helping the new folk

think the way you are handling this game is simply beautiful… wish I could just do that … but conditions bring me another point… and seems like i cant come out of it for a long time …

Why thank you! That’s very kind, I’m sorry to hear that you’re stuck in that position. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help get you where you want to be!

New players doesnt have know what does it means…

Now this might be personal preference, but doing thing without understanding them is the foundation of boredom, and that’s one of the reasons I avoid larger corps. The less a new player learns, the less they understand. Again, perhaps that’s just me and my friends but it’s a pattern I’ve noticed with this game

there is beautifull incredibly intelligent and brillant people in this game… They are also mostly casual because they have real lifes they want to enjoy the game learn fast and practice well …

Now that we can agree on, well said!

Anyone else have any experience with this? Let’s hear it!

Sounds good my friend! I will be a bit late getting on tonight but around 01:00 UTC I should be online

dammit thats 02:00 in danmark awww , but anyway just get in then we find a way  im looking forward …

I think that finding a corporation that fits is going to be the biggest challenge for me in this game.

Well, ask yourself first: Why do you want to BE in a corporation?

For me, it was literally just to have people to talk to and fly around with to try and go from high sec to null sec. That can be done by just talking to people as much as possible and sending private conversation invites, to eventually join a discord

If all you want is some camaraderie, you don’t necessarily need to join a corp for that

I don’t really know, lol.
I did read that it makes the game easier but I like a challenge and finding things out on my own. Plus I’m not a follower and I can be very unpredictable, something a corporation might not like.

True.

That is true, a corp will make the game easier. But if I read that correctly, you like a challenge, blazing your own path, and are subject to sudden aspiration changes/whims?

You sound like me! XD

Yes. I would be doing something and another thing would cross my mind and there I’d go doing something else totally irrelevant with what I was doing.
And I get bored easily, very impatient.
