Are new and returning players having a hard time getting in to the game

Hello,

I wanted to leave some feedback. and not 100% on where to put it. so i will post it here and hope the right eyes find it.

I’ve played EVE a long time ago and recently came back to it, but the experience hasn’t been as enjoyable for a returning player.

One thing that stood out is how difficult it is to simply explore anywhere, even 1.0 without immediately getting pulled into PvP. traveling used to feel more open and casual (depending on where.), but now it often feels like you can’t travel very far without getting swarmed. For players who just want to see what’s out there or get reacquainted with the universe, it can feel pretty limiting.

One idea that might help would be some kind of corporation-issued “passport” system for non-combat ships. Corporations that control space through POS structures, stations, or other sovereignty mechanics could choose to sell temporary access passes to visitors. This would allow unarmed ships to travel through their controlled systems without immediately being attacked.

To prevent abuse, the passport would only apply to non-combat ships that are not hauling cargo. While the passport is active, the ship would be immune to PvP targeting from other players regardless of corporation affiliation, as long as the passport issuer is not at war with the visitor’s corporation and does not have negative standings with the pilot or their corp.

Corporations could also designate restricted zones within their space. If a visitor attempts to warp to a restricted location, such as a POS or another sensitive area, they would receive a warning first. If they attempt the warp again and choose to enter anyway, the protection would immediately drop. Their ship would become visible on the system warp list similar to a jump beacon, allowing anyone in the system to warp directly to them and engage them just like normal 0.0 space.

The goal of something like this would be to create a middle ground where players can explore, interact with corporations, and meet other pilots without immediately becoming targets. It could also give corporations a new way to interact with travelers while still protecting the areas of space that matter most to them.

I still think EVE has one of the most interesting universes in gaming. I just wish there were more ways for explorers and casual players to participate in it.

Thanks for the years of gameplay

If youve played eve for a long time, then you already know what to expect. The game hasnt changed…you and other players have. Adapt and continue your adventures.

P.S. Yes, this is in the wrong place. A mod will probably move it to general where it will be torn apart like the rest of the posts suggesting changes for safe living and traveling in this game.

EVE is not a safe game. The only way to make it safe is by player initiatives. Whether thats buying a ratting permit in nullspace or giving C0DE some cash so that you can mine in highsec.

What you want is this:

combined with a covert ops ship with fast align time.

What if you just learned how to play to an average level of ability before suggesting any large-scale changes to the core of the game’s being?

No, the goal of something like that would be to create invulnerable spies that are free to position themselves anywhere they want and gather intel, provide fleet warp-in points, create tactical bookmarks, do scouting…

You’re kidding. I regularly travel between Jita and Amarr and never get ‘swarmed’. I visit lowsec and there’s often no-one there. Large stretches of nullsec are empty. Where are you getting ‘swarmed’ ?

This has not been my experience. I have been here alpha mining since 2022. You can see from my killmail here;

I mostly lost ships in low security space or in wormholes. I learned to keep on top of my game and not blunder into traps at every turn. It is a PvP open world game, you are going to lose stuff. I lost an entire station last year. That is why we can’t have nice stuff in this game. I wonder what the root cause of you getting pulled into PvP might be? If you fly high priced ships or have a lot of cargo, that might be the reason.

No such thing as a non-combat ship. I can fit weapons on my venture and often do. I don’t think immunity is the best idea. Players who don’t respect the exploration and mining ships are just seeking the easy kill. They have no skill at PvP, so they shoot the easy target.

According to what I read recently, they might be working on safe space for you. There is a whole new region being developed for new players with 53 solar systems. Maybe that will be your answer to your suggestion. I would like players to respect freeports and exploration ships, but there will always be the ones who lack the experience and want a target that won’t shoot back.

Am I understanding you correctly? Are you suggesting that you can’t travel safely in 1.0 systems without “immediately getting pulled into PvP”? I am going to have to ask what 1.0 systems are you getting pulled into PvP against your will. Are you using corvettes to haul all the Plex you saved from ten previous years of playing?

I don’t want to say that I don’t believe you, but your tale seems to be counter factual to my experience with this game and feels like you’re just spreading fud.

I agree with others who posted above me – this is simply not true at all. You can go weeks if not months traveling around in high sec of all security status without getting ‘‘pulled into PVP’’. Maybe you live in a very high traffic bottleneck area (think of Uedama, as an example) which is home to a pirate/ganking group. Then you would see more of that on a regular basis. I move around a lot – in high sec, low sec, null sec. And in my opinion all of that space (with the exception of nullblocs’ staging systems) is perfectly explorable solo or in a small company.

Good answer!

Not making any fun of you @CablcC it was just the vision of someone buying $2500 in Plex and actually hauling it inside their ship. Does anyone ( besides myself ) feel the game has calmed down over the past year? Maybe I am just getting better, now that I have Ahbazon on my avoid list.

MMmh… where I have heard of this “universals Pass” already…

Let put it in another way…
A kind of reward system that enhances your clone stats as you complete some sets of sidequests for all factions… but you need to join a certain Corp, or Ally to them, which will prevent you from
doing any PVP content, but give you access to all PVE content.

Get into a wormhole, and let you “buy” a freedock where there are present some allied corps, like a small tax before entry. Nobody can prevent Spying anyway, that is moot.

Also the pass should be limited to “solo” players, those that fly around in search of rare ores…
Sure I can put a cyno down and invite my friends over Teamspeak and blast your little station…
but having joined that particular corp, such actions could have consequences…

And an Alpha player could not join that particular corp… It has to have very good positive
record of peaceful activity just to be able to join… share 50% of mission loot…

I think it’s a good idea, like the Marshal class… you would need to use one kind of ship, three at best… but it would open a great bunch of emerging, alternative gameplay.

It’s too easy to dismiss how hard it is for anyone that do not have a quazillion connections
to move around, and just strumentalize the idea like some kind of conspiracy…

In reality you are scared of innovation.

Or the sudden appearance of gates offices that could sell the passage for a fee, to any insta-travel location of the map, instead of rolling those mini-worm-holes tickets to ride in a random location…

How is called that other Space game… Elite Dangerous? Yeah, that’s him…
There you need to “ask for permission” to dock, everywhere. And many smuggler missions
requires you to flypass security guns undetected… 99% of the time you get blown apart…
And you get a timer too… fail to respond, and the security guns will start pew-pew at you…

in Eve most stations have security guns, so a spy more, or one less, it doesn’t change
one bit the outcome… instead a new kind of probe… that would not reveal some structures positions… in a well thought “Traveler-PVE only-friendly fit” for some kind of ships… (Odysseus…?)
could give some kinda of insurance that those in that program, with a small Dove icon?
can not perform some kind of actions that could result in “it’s a spy, 100%! Kill him”…

It would need a lot of testing and feedback, but it could result in some great returns.

PS: This last patch added some changes to Pochven “insurance” and docking ability…
I see this as a good move in a more navigable environment, maybe correlated to this
topic or not. It’s a welcomed change.

Forgetting to insure a ship before entering Pochven caused unnecessary friction, and added little to the region’s playstyle. No standings are required if the character is able to dock at the station.

  • The bracket icon for Dazh Liminality Locus structures has been updated.
  • Increased the number of NPC buy orders for Stellar Surveillance Data and Triglavian Survey Database commodities.

didn’t your mother ever teach you that anything after but is a lie?

You just did it here. I go 60+ jumps on multiple characters, every day i log in. never seen any swarms, other than the afk ospreys in uedama. all the market travel routes. even gheth isnt an issue since 1 of 8 or whatever his name was stopped logging in.

True.

Another thread, “what if EVE could make stuff to my needs”.

The fun part, or maybe not so funny, is that even if CCP listens, it will be abused into oblivion serving no purpose other then helping the bad actors. I can remember some WH stuff back in the day.

One day ppl will understand implementing a feature in EVE is damn hard, players are allowed to twist it because the level of freedom.

The real problem are the bots, they’re consuming stuff players should be consuming. The rest is competition, get gud.

It has never been safer in high sec. So this is a you problem.

I quite agree. Yesterday I sailed past the ganker gate camp in Aufay half a dozen times, while suspect hunting, without being ganked. There ended up being almost 200 Concord on the gate. All manner of ships were lost. But I passed through multiple times without ever once being locked. Once people grasp the reason why…they are 99.999% safe in highsec.
