Are Wardecs always going to be broken? Is a fix even possible?

Doubt, because on the timers this 200man fleet would suddenly meet another 100-300man fleet from someone else trying to get their share of content. Or a 50man sniperfleet trying to pick apart their most valuable ships.
The greatest risk when attacking structures anywhere is that you expose yourself to a known timer and don’t know who might want to join the party.

And tbh exactly that blobfleet can go around attacking all HS citadels right now, just using a cheap wardec for a 100M on each of them and be granted full CONCORD protection while doing it.

Then the game will remain in it’s stagnating status until they realize that it was the design of POSes that allowed small groups to hold a share of space because their removal was so hard/annoying/time consuming that it wouldn’t be done by any larger random large group out of boredom and/or for riskless core-farming.
This game only has a future if small groups are allowed to thrive. They need upwell structures with the combat power of POSes to counter the numbers superiority of larger groups at least when defending. That is how ‘fortresses’ worked in all human history and it ist the only viable counter to large groups: make an attack on the smaller group so costly in time, effort and losses that the larger group rather let them live as long as they don’t give a real (political) reason to be wiped out in a large campaign.

I can only repeat it over and over again: The design of Upwell Citadels (and all the attached mechanics like access and asset safety) was the single worst game design decision CCP ever made. It has made large groups completely untouchable and skeletized the status quo for eternity. You can see it every day and you will see no change, no matter how much bandaid and good will you invest.

I agree with this. ACLs, preset timers, asset safety, unlimited slots, cargo and ship storage.

It’s especially interesting comparing them to Control Towers and see what the actual “benefits” are.

ACLs: Instead of sharing hangar access which is always a bit sketchy
preset timers: Reinforcing a POS even if you don’t blow it up will consume it’s stronthium. Timers were not set in stone and allowed for gaming the system a bit
asset safety: instead of stuff being lost and looted, Interbus just transport it for free no matter where you are
unlimited industry slots: you only need one station to build unlimited amounts of stuff
unlimited cargo + storage: you can sit on a stockpile of goods and ships.

Control Towers are the superior mechanic. They can be attacked by smaller groups and slowly grinded down in a tug of war. The attacker doesn’t take down the tower, but can take down stronth or weapon batteries. Attacking Citadels of a bigger group usually means you waste 1 hour of time and reinforcing doesn’t even hurt the defender even a bit.

My observation leads to the conclusion that over time either CCP or Nullsec Megaempire Influencers have pushed these mechanics to strenghten the big groups while weakening the small groups and hiding the change behind a cloak of “innovation”.

I want a source on this. I would like to see the memo from CCP that only you get. Why are you getting these emails from them when no one else is? You seem to have no trouble speaking for the wants and desires of CCP.

And that’s Eve online. Destruction is Eve Online. I’d rather have this than a bunch of complex rules and punishments and guidelines and required activities that mean absolutely nothing just to avoid penalties. All that crap is not Eve Online.

Sigh. OK…here’s today’s Maths 101 lesson just for you…

You commented “The numbers were growing.”. Well of course they were. Unless you’ve suddenly discovered negative people ( though a few on this forum would fit that category ), the numbers CAN only go up from zero.

That’ll be 10bn ISK Maths Consultation Fee.

While I find all this bickering back forth quite amusing, all things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the correct one. Don’t anchor what you can’t defend. It’s that simple. Just like you shouldn’t undock in a 6 billion ISK Marauder or a 20 billion ISK cargo jump freighter unless you know what you are doing. EVE is about destruction. Period. Those who are unprepared or refuse to accept the consequences of their choices tend to find that out the hard way…

Which basically translates into: Don’t build anything in high-sec. Because there is always some null-sec alliance with larger pockets that a) doesn’t like anyone else having nice things or b) playing in “their” sandbox.

The irony being that they all depend on high-sec to some extent…

You can build whatever you want in high, just be prepared to defend it. Case in point, I had one of my Athanors nuked a couple of months ago. Why? Because I’m a genius and left it unattended and unfueled for a couple of months. That’s on me. Other than that, I’ve never had an issue. They didn’t wardec me just to be doing it, they did it to clear that moon for someone who wanted to place an active Athanor there, which is understandable. I was fine with it, didn’t cry about it, and placed another Athanor in the region of space I was currently operating in.

What is the purpose of wardecs? That is first thing to figure out before trying to fix them imo

That’s way too much common sense for one day. My brain now hurts and I’m going to have to go lie down.

Wardecs are there so only mega corps can own structures (in high sec)?

Basically, yes. At least large structures, POCOs and trading hubs. Pretty sure they’re all null-sec owned/controlled.

That is silly

Just depends on what region of space you’re operating in. If you are around the trade hubs, yeah you’re probably going to get looked at. If you are operating a mini trade hub or Athanor at the ass end of Khanid space, no one cares…

Small groups should be able to own structures in high sec

I suspect that’s true - especially when you look at the different regions of space, ie: Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, Minmatar…

They can. I have several. Just don’t leave them unattended, as I found out a couple months back…

What is the problem then? @QuakeGod

Imo if you dont hold sov you should not be able to be war decced. And you should not be able to war dec others either

In my opinion, there isn’t one. As I said before, don’t anchor what you can’t defend. The war dec mechanic is working as intended. Just be glad it was changed from it’s prior form. Before it was changed, you could war dec anyone, for any reason, whether they owned a structure or not…

Do you even know what you are saying?
