Arrowspeeed for CSM 20 - for all who love the game

My Eve Story and Experience
I started playing Eve in 2014, working my way through the new player stage with 2 friends, all of us learning together. Both friends have long since left the game (one through a sad death, the other still in contact in a Steam chat), but their characters still sit in my corp, my own sentimental salute to the Eve friendship machine.

One of my first light bulb moments in Eve was when I pulled up the full Eve map, while still trying to figure out what an asteroid looked like on the screen. "OMG, each one of those ovals is a region …. of constellations …… of systems …….. of planets? This is a pretty big game.”

Next light bulb moment was when I realized how much trouble it is to MOVE things places. “Gee,” I thought to myself, “seems like a good business could be started just by moving things around for people”. (This was before I noticed that lots of people had thought of the same idea, of course.)

And then – once I made my way into an alliance – there were those fleets that everybody said I had to join. “Wait, they’re all flying away somewhere … wait, wait for me – where are you? – what is this red circle being drawn on my screen and why is my body floating around all weird and looking … well, dead?” Which is what made me think it might be a good idea to have training classes for people new to fleeting. (OK somebody else already thought of that, too.)

These new player moments were the seeds of several of my first space jobs like new player fleet training and logistics services,

I got started in my more serious rental manager career the day I got furious at somebody for something (forgot what) and exited both corp and alliance in one angry click. Next day, to my surprise, a chat screen popped up from an alliance leader saying “Arrow, we want you back, what would it take to get you back?” I was amazed that I was missed at all, much less getting an offer to ask for what I wanted if I returned. But I did ask for what I wanted which was a space job that would allow me a voice in the alliance. I got the job and the voice, and returned to the alliance the next day. The job was setting up and managing a new rental program for Phoenix Federation (some may remember them).

From there, I found that my primary interest in Eve is running space businesses and leading teams that provide good services Eve players. I started by creating and running a logistics team, then managed rental businesses for several alliances (and still do for Fraternity), and then later took on other projects like setting up a moon rental system, an alliance recruitment team, rule/wiki management, and managing a coalition diplo team.

What do all these have in common? Listening to and understanding what those I serve want – and then delivering what they want. Whether it is fast, low cost delivery services, rental space with responsive and fair management, training classes for specific fleet roles, rules that are clear and consistent, or an organized diplo case management system that consistently hears both sides of a case and follows through. (And no, we don’t keep everybody happy doing this, that would be impossible – but we do care – and try – which is appreciated — well, most of the time ….. OK some of the time.)

Where am I most knowledgeable?

+ Region infrastructure management, especially Equinox infrastructure management. Sov hubs, upgrades, workforce and power distribution, structure installation, jump bridge locations, fuelng, etc. And those mercenary dens – PUlease can we do something about those dens ….. anything..

+ Internal and External Diplomacy – finding solutions that take into account both sides, even when there is no solution that will make everyone happy.

Why am I applying? A great opportunity to apply these skills in a bigger arena. This time serving the Eve community itself.

What can you expect? My aim is to represent all who love the game, whatever they choose to do in this big sandbox.

Good luck Arrow! I endorse this product and or service! (in all seriousness though, Arrowspeeed is a fantastic candidate who brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and pragmatism to the table.)

Hello Arrowspeeed Bounty, first of all good luck with your campaign :flexed_biceps: …and may the best will win ofc :sports_medal:
(I will great every candidate this way  )

Hope you find time to share your thoughts on below topics and game ideas.

1. EVE Vanguard
Have you had an occasion to try it during Operation Nemesis or earlier? What was your impression if any?

What do you think about bidirectional connection planned with EVE Online? Do you see it has a potential to attract more players towards New Eden? And do you think Capsuleers will benefit from it?

2. Information & ISK itemization
How about being able to take a notes from your notepad and put it as an item into container or ship cargo? Same with an amount of ISK? Just like you can do with PLEX.

Would you pitch CCP to consider implementing it?

3. Production Plans
Basically the idea behind this is to bundle all the BPOs (BPCs), required to produce some final product, say, an assembled Drake fully fitted according to some saved fit ready for duty, into a single BPO-like item, and internally arranged into an intricate production workflow. Complete with logistics tasks, if necessary, using delivery corp projects. It could use BPMN diagram editor to arrange.

When installed into industrial job slot it will churn out those Drakes, provided there are required materials in linked containers or pause until they are become available again.

Would you pitch CCP to consider implementing it? Or at least expand ESI to allow 3rd party developers to do it?

Eve Vanguard – I have not tried Eve Vanguard yet, but intend to. It’s a pretty interesting idea to have the games coordinated both in underlying theme and then to have bidirectional influence on top of that. The potential seems high – and the complexity that can result is something that would be attractive to the typical Eve player. Key will be the longer term commitment and attention to how these features play out that CCP delivers.

Information & ISK itemization –
Let me answer by considering how I would approach an idea like this.
My first question would be – what does this provide that isn’t already available in another fashion? It is a creative approach to think about sending helpful notes along with a purchase or being able to provide notes to people to find or pick up. Question is – is there another way to do this already? Thinking out-loud – let’s see, in a contract you can already put information into the contract title, but the length of that note is really limited. You can get around that by including a link to a longer document in that line, but it would be easier (and more fun) to include a note in the contract itself. For example, I provide a service in my rentlal program where we install structures for renters – they supply that structures to us by contract and they often have fairly detailed instructions about what they want that won’t fit into the contract description. Having a way to include a longer note in the contract itself would be handy for that scenario.

Second question I’d have would be – what do other players think of it – in various contexts of the game. (Considering the limitations of being under NDA of course.)

My third question would be how does the value of this weigh against other ideas and how does the cost of implimenting weigh against other ideas. Recognizing that there is not unlimited time and money to impliment everything, cost-benefit has to be considered against other ideas on the table.

How would I pitch something like this –

  • Data – e.g. here are six ways I have found that this could be effectively used
  • Tell stories with concrete, real scenarios like my renter sttructure installation example above
  • Hear other ideas and thoughts and let those influence toward a possibly better solution.

Production Plans

So (if I’m interpreting this right), basically making it possible for players to create mass-production lines via a single BPO making multiple steps into a single step in a production. Then, the option to also sell that to others.

This one seems risky and would probably need a careful look at things like the economic impact of various mass-produced items appearing on the market all at once, the increased division between top mass-producers vrs smaller builders. Development costs would be a big factor I would think, too. And then maybe a question of – automate TOO many things and it kinda becomes not a game any more.

Well, a lot of words, but I hope that shows something about my approach to these kinds of questions.
