Doesn’t one of the Career Agents insist you go mine in a Venture, but you have to use one high slot for a railgun to kill a rat?
Yeah, that would be the Industrialist (Producer) Career Agent who offers the ‘Making Mountains Of Molehills’ series…

Maybe instead of a new NPE every couple of years they could change misleading tutorial content.
Ever heard of something called ‘drones’? ![]()
The fittings library is full of free example fittings. They give a good guide as to whether a ship is best armour or shield fitted, the sort of turrets to fit, and so on. And as many modules involve inter-dependent skills…they give a good guide as to what set of skills to train for.
But beyond that, to be honest there is some pleasure in working out fittings for oneself. I’ve spent hours tinkering around and adjusting fittings. Generally my ships are a lot less tanky now than when I was a noob…but that is made up for by way better raw DPS and defence ability. And I’ve discovered superb fittings that nobody’s ever mentioned before. It would have been far less fun to have it all handed to me on a plate…plus that really would not provide a good understanding of what various modules actually do.
it’s a reference to a movie called Wargames
You’re being too kind.
It’s horrible, silly, annoying, boring. As a new player you’ll feel weak, you’ll mess up what to do (shoot or ECM, because you’re new you have no idea what ECM even means).
It really just comes down to “click button, sit and wait for 30-60 seconds and somehow, magically, this advances the mission to the next part, which is going to be more of the same”. And somehow this is supposed to be fun, interesting and enticing newbies to stick around and not uninstall on the spot.
Whoever designed this should probably not be in control of things.
Well exactly, my immediate reaction was to bung a couple of Hobs in the drone bay but that doesn’t complete the mission.
Sure it does…you only have to KILL the npc…i did the missions just yesterday with no effort at all…9/10 is the one with the kernite in it…
Maybe this is because you ARE ‘weak and silly’? ![]()
In 4/10 you have to kill a rat. You are compelled to fit a gun. I guess it’s good that 9/10 corrects the bad advice of 4/10, but equally why didn’t they give you a couple of drones for 4/10? I just find it unhelpful that a tutorial mission would compel you to fit a venture badly.
If you buy and use drones the tutorial won’t advance because of “you didn’t fit a weapon”. You can circumvent that by using the old method to warp to a mission but newbies don’t know about that. It’s just one of those things that make no sense.
in 4/10 you are NOT supposed to mine at all…so i don’t see your problem…
the mission advances with drone kills also…no doubt about that because i did it a couple of days ago using 2 drones for the hole arc while filling the venture to the brim with ore with 2 mining lasers in every mission…there is not even a slight problem. It’s the same with the mission where you get a civilian missile launcher…this can also be solved with your 2 drones with no problem at all…just the kill is important for the mission completion. You seem to play another game than i do…
Okay I ran it recently and got that annoying flashing box telling me to fit a gun in 4/10. And that is precisely what rookies, for whom these missions are designed, will do.
The fact we know that Aura’s advice is stupid doesn’t negate it being stupid and extremely unhelpful for the intended audience.
I recall there’s a mission where one is told to mine X amount of ore and then convert it into Tritanium. I couldn’t be bothered and just bought the requisite amount of Tritanium on the market…and that worked. Captain Kirk method ![]()
Doesn’t that come just after ‘War is Peace’ and ‘Freedom Is Slavery’ ?
Must be some new version of Newspeak in which ‘all’ means ‘me’.
Yeah there’s another one where some waxwork asks you for a civilian MWD, so having played a few years the immediate reaction is to strip a 'vette and thank 'em when they compliment the nice work.
I will say the NPE does a better job of at least providing the rudiments of flying a ship between two points, but the career agent missions are very uneven and sometimes unhelpful.
You can ignore said window…the mission solves anyway using drones…
so -for you- the ‘benefit of all’ is irrelevant if YOU would have to change something about YOUR game?
I KNEW IT
YOUR game has to be eternal…no changes please…heretic.
