Unofficially speaking, ultimately what matters to us (Blackflag) is our ability to complete contracts. Public perception or opinion of how edgy or brash we are isn’t very important.
In the grand scheme of things, making a joke like Khromius did is mild compared to what is said both in-game and in various Eve Online related discord servers so let’s not be too sensitive here
There seems to be some debate about the image Khromius linked, and I believe the allegation is that he was insulting the mentally challenged.
Just for the record, and I hope mean man Khromius doesn’t object to my comments and start destroying structures which I don’t own (and I didn’t even know they existed), but the image in question is from the syndicated comic strip Far Side.
So, uh, first of all, if you take issue with this image, you will want to contact your local newspaper and the Universal Press. Secondly, uh, not to ruin the joke for anybody, but (SPOILER ALERT) in the bottom right corner you will notice the sign stating, “Midvale: School for the Gifted”. The joke is not, haha, let’s laugh at the mentally challenged person, but rather, haha, lol, laugh at mister smartypants, thinks he is sooo smart but can’t even open a door. Kind of, uh, ya know, it’s a joke making fun of smart people…
At one point, Harvard’s Crimson used this image to illustrate an article questioning whether higher education sufficiently prepares students with practical skills for the real world. That’s what the comic strip is actually about.
Maybe, and am I even allowed to laugh at your joke on the Eve forums? These people are just so bad and I always liked that Far Side cartoon. By the way, I think Gix is Dom Arkaral who has a dislike for you because you rejected his application to Vendetta a while back.
As for the OP I would say however, that at least he had a go at it however ineffectual it was.
People join the game to mine Tritanium and run missions in high-sec. The amount of people who fight in null-sec (not just live there, but actually fight) is less than 5% of the game’s population.
I think CCP makes more money off these newer players. Just look at what most of what their marketing is aimed towards… industry and mining. Look at all the promotional packs!
Every time I see this thread at the top of C&P, my heart is filled with hope that our war HQ has actually been reinforced again. Then I read down and see that it is just more ship toasting. And that makes me sad …
So the goon war didn’t bring back people to fight? It didn’t effect the daily logon count at all? There wasn’t any motivation for anyone fighting to be online?
I would quantify the effect that that war (and similar wars) had on player population and participation as “margin of error.”
Like I said, the vast majority of the game’s population mines Veldspar and runs missions in high-sec. Most of them don’t even know a null-sec exists, or have heard rumors about it, and are terrified of it like the boogeyman.
