I didn’t read this all, did he start calling who disagree with him trolls yet?
Sort of - I didn’t bother reading further after I posted that reply anyway - “Only post if you agree with me” told me all I needed to know about that guy.
Because not only would that lead to my instant banning, but probably break several laws regarding obscenity and libel?
This system makes no sense. Try to do this on ANY stock market in the world, and you’ll get correct buy/sell order matching
For example, if there are 4 sell orders and you want to buy all of them:
price qty
120.15 x 1000
119.09 x 500
118.52 x 1000
115.22 x 500
On any stock market, you would create a buy order 120.15 x 2000 and it would correctly charge matching sell orders. It will NOT charge you 120.15 for all of them.
In EVE, you can’t do that with a single buy order (not even with Duration: Immediate). You have to manually buy each order separately.
This is very counterintuitive and I think most new players are quite surprised when they realize this.
It would take a team of CCP developers 6 months to fix this. Are you sure you wouldn’t be more interested in some skins?
Yeah, Current system enables RMT then?
I put something purely at a low price at the top of the list of offers for sale and someone buys it for a sum previously agreed through RMT?
So you would have to report it to CCP immediately to avoid being banned?
Placing a buy order with the Duration: Immediate is equal to buying from the sell order.
First of all, I feel like I need to point out that our in game market is not a stock market. You are there to buy or sell (virtual) physical goods in a universe clearly intended to play by the rule caveat emptor: let the buyer beware.
As previously mentioned, trying to buy or sell for significantly above or below the market value of an item produces a warning dialog the user has to choose to suppress or ignore. There are guard rails already in place to prevent people from executing orders that are off by a factor of 1000%, as is the case with an extra 0.
You have a transaction list that tells you to whom you overpaid. If you wish, you may try contacting the retailer to refund you the amount of your overpayment. A request they may agree to or deny. If they agree, problem solved. If they do not agree, that is a potential conflict generator.
You can only lose money through user error. You can only lose a lot of money through user error and intentionally ignoring or disabling the guard rails that would have saved you. If you lose a lot of money, you know from whom to try to extract it by force, if you can. This seems adequate and healthy for a game like Eve to me.
Maybe you haven’t read the Broker Relations devblog. Developers clearly state the desire to operate more like stock/commodity markets.
As discussed above, there is a desire to follow some real-world examples in how markets can operate, so this change is heavily influenced by the way that regular stock/commodity markets handle pricing. There’s more information here and here out there for those that are interested in reading more on this subject.
Hu, no ?
Their desire is to “follow some real-world examples in how markets can operate” and for that it is influenced by “the way that regular stock/commodity markets handle pricing.”
It does not mean that they desire to operate like stock/commodity market.
You literally took parts of the post and put them together to make them mean something else.
You want a system that prevents you from making mistakes, that’s a legit question.
But here’s the catch:
- You advertise, via a public buy order, that you are willing to pay X amount of ISK for certain goods. You made a typo and ignored all the messages and questions when setting up the order.
- Another player reads your ad and will happily oblige, making a nice profit as you are willing to pay more than the going market price. Only one person is happy…
- You are in a hurry to get your hands on the goods you need, for whatever urgent reason and there are many open buy orders. You are willing to pay more than normal price, hence the high value buy order. Another player happily obliges. And two people are happy …
- How can any AI system distinguish between situation 1) and 3) ? Not even a human can.
- There are situations where buy orders can’t be fulfilled automatically anyway, like goods not within reach (in station, via skills, w/e).
- Define “market price”. Which price is that ? Jita ? Amarr ? Lowest sell price anywhere ?
- Are you willing to fetch your goods somewhere in nullsec after a kind AI has automatically bought you your goods at “market price” ?
When selling loot I suddenly noticed I paid extra fees. It took a while for me to realize that I was being dumb and was actually setting up sell orders at npc market buy prices. After switching it back to “Immediate” I no longer paid those extra fees. Silly me, and lesson learned. Reading helps.
I accidently sold a BPC for 3.5 instead of 35.
Ccp pls fx.
On the market ?
It’s mind-boggling to see players defending this completely broken mechanics.
No, on contract, but the fat fingered principle is the same
Edit: and I just did it myself. BPO
Lol doiii
Equally mind-boggling are players defending mistakes made by players
This is how I earned almost 3b this morning.
Do I make money on it? Yes.
Is it good mechanics? No.
i dont get it, the price ist some high, but what mean you? What a “broken” thing have you used?
You completely lost me there. Why is it not good that you made 3b on those injectors ? Do you assume that someone who was willing to pay that sum made a mistake ?
The mechanic comes from the Eve market being an open market. Any item is worth what someone is willing to pay. And nothing is foolproof, unless you take away freedom.
I don’t know how to explain it any better.
This is NOT how we should make money. The buyer DOES NOT expect this market behavior.
Buy and sell orders should MATCH, and not close based on the value entered like now.
This guy probably expected 12 injectors to close at the lowest price available (like any market), therefore he selected the highest priced one.
But to his disbelief, he got charged AT THAT PRICE!. This is happening all the time. New players, old players, drunk players…
I tried to explain it the best as I could why I think this is simply wrong.
