I have noticed a lot of people can’t separate the science from fiction in science-fiction. I am fairly certain they don’t allow us to get close enough to the planet for good reason. You might be able to see the thin thread suspending the painted ping pong balls from the ceiling.
A real spaceship would be unable to approach. There comes a point where gravitational force exceeds thrust, and the ship will crash.
Or if you plan it better, land.
