Can we get a name purge of old 10+ year old accounts with no activity?

There are people who haven’t logged-in in nearly two decades. They don’t even have an avatar because they haven’t logged into the character since before the Character Creator update. I look to see who has a name I wanted and it’s someone from 18 years ago with 0.0 standing and security status, never left the starter corp. Probably never left the station or boarded a ship.

If giving them a serial number isn’t possible send them to Doomheim.

Opinions on this?

They can’t even get an update right and you want them to purge old inactive accounts?
Good luck with that.

They have done it before but in a much more proper way than op wants.

Around the time alphas were added they purged the name of any character that never subbed after the two week trial.

That said i know plenty of people who have gone a decade more then came back to this is going to be a no to ops suggestion.

Eve already has one of the most open naming conventions. Numbers, spaces, unique characters. If someone has your name get creative.

Hell even in the few games out there that would let me have my names format it would just be rejected for having the evil “S” word

Swtor would be the most recent one that refused it for “offensive language”

I literally have a ‘-’ in my name

There are loads of games that won’t let you have spaces, have a capital after the first letter, use religious names, ect

Lots of people come back to the game after extended periods away.

That’s true and thank you for rephrasing that.

Is a dash a special character? Anyway, it literally refuses “special characters”, it tells you so.

I’m surprised they consider the ‘S’ name “offensive” is all.
Thanks for the info.

Who cares if they come back after decades. They were gone for a decade. They probably don’t even remember what the character was named. Nothing is stopping them from returning. They would have simply lost a name from decades ago and have to make a new one like they have to make a new face.

The proper way is sending out an email telling people what’s about to happen and to log in with characters if they actually care to keep the name. Like every other MMO that does name purges.

What is this evil “S” word? Did I miss the memo?

I support this 100%

CCP could auction off names that have literally logged in once, 21 years ago.

I’ll start off with a $100.00 bid on “Superman”.

If people are too dumb to come up with one of the eight million names not taken by EVE players, then ■■■■ 'em.

You’re not wrong, but why shouldn’t they release some, like the one I mentioned.

CCP could make money off of it. :dollar:

Slippery slope. Once they get a taste of that easy cash, it will go from 10+ years to 5 years to 1 year not logged in.

Then what? Selling name changes? There’s a gold mine.

And after that…

I think you should try to pick a more original name.

New players or returning players are a good thing for EVE.

I don’t know about you, but I still remember the names I gave my characters in games I played decades ago.

And if my name had been reset that would stop me from returning.

That aside, for characters that have very little history (less than 10M SP, no activity for a decade) I can think CCP could do a name purge. It’s one thing to do a name purge of a character someone was invested in a long time ago, but if they weren’t invested and long gone I don’t see any issues with a name purge.

Likely the word that is in that user’s name. But considering one of the factions has slaves, I’m not surprised.

What about the titan alts we skill inject into, only to safelog them on an r64 belt and login-gank a random miner corps that lives there a decade later?

Hate to agree with Aiko, but, yeah

“I’m too lazy to think of a good name just delete the characters of people with good names so I can steal them”

Go away and train Naming Creativity to at least 3.

I vote no!

“Slave” is the “s” word? Man, we really have reached the last stage of the end of civilization…
