I’ve noticed we can no longer easily see how many hours a character has been online, or at least I can’t figure out how to do it. This used to be a feature in the game, but now it seems to be gone—or maybe there’s a workaround I’m not aware of?
I even opened a ticket to ask for this info, but the response I got was that the Player Experience team can’t provide it anymore. This is disappointing, especially for a game like EVE where we invest so much time and effort.
For many of us, EVE is more than just a game—it’s a huge part of our lives. Seeing how many hours we’ve dedicated to it is a meaningful way to reflect on our journey and the impact this game has had.
If the feature has been removed, I’d love to see it brought back. And if it’s still possible to access this info somehow, can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks for your time, and I hope the devs take this into consideration!
You used to be able to access the external data interface (ESI) to access character data that included your time in-game. CCP removed that data point about 3 years ago, when they did some changes to the system.
This request pops up quite frequently over the years, but as many players seem horrified by the idea as interested.
As far as I know there’s been no way to track your time in-game since then, except through something external - like Steam tracks your hours in a game if you play through Steam, etc.
Steam has only in the past few years stored the figures permanently, as I seem to recall that every time I re-installed Windows all the counters would reset to zero so it must have been stored locally before that.
You could probably deduce your online time from the ‘Game Logs’ ( EVE/Logs/Gamelogs ) which have start and end time and player character in each log. A really short one from yesterday…

Another game I use to play used a slash command from chat. /timeplayed or something to that affect. The chat would return the time in days, hours, and minutes. Even so, it really never reflects the active time in any game. I get distracted and go places leaving this and other games to idle. Since the game has no inactivity timer – Thank God! – the game could run a few days in the background without you taking notice. I tend to estimate, I play as much as 2 to 4 hours per day on Tuesday and Wednesday, as much as 6 to 8 per day on the weekend. Roughly 16 to 20 hours per week, 52 weeks per year is 1,040 per year and I have played this from the summer of 2023. I suspect over 2,000 hours by this summer, anything beyond that is just me being AFK because I went to the store with my sister, family visits, or dialysis days where I forgot to log out. Personally we do we really need a reminder of our time spent having fun?
Back in the day we used to leave eve open just for “numbers” and creating the illusion we might be there or might not be for potential enemies. I suspect its still a thing in many areas of the game to this day. PsyOps are real mmkay!
The obvious was youd have one blue guy log off and about 5mins to an hour later a neut/red would come into the scene snooping around. But it was every day they were online, then the red would stick around for anything juicy and easy for a couple and then leave and log off.
