I need NASA opinion on this, I never left the flat earth, I wouldn’t know.
NASA has a website with pictures of space.
There you can see how clouds curve around the surface of the Earth, or around the surface of other planets like Jupiter.
One thing I never see in those space pictures is two flat horizontal planes of clouds above and below the spaceship, because such a thing makes no sense.
Several years ago, I used a Direct X application called uMod to change the graphic texture packs in Guild Wars, but that was allowed and not supported by ArenaNet. I found it fun to fiddled with it for a bit, then I dropped using it at all, since nobody can see my alterations to clothing. I am not sure how Fenris would feel about using anything of the sort here.
I don’t see it giving you any advantage over the other players. I don’t think of it as being evasive, it works as a traffic cop on the texture sent from the game and replaces them with the graphics you have altered in your library. This is all assuming your horizon is texture based.
I don’t know how many times, I have pointed it out on Star Trek and other sci-fi movies to my husband, but all the ships meet up on the same artificial horizon plane in these shows. In all reality, I would expect inverted and even perpendicular encounters would be more normal. They also park too close to each other for the fictional speeds they travel. My husband hates it when I poke holes in his shows. Hee hee. ![]()
Have fun!
I don’t have a problem with the horizons, but i feel the space in EVE is a slight bit lacking. I’m not asking for dynamics and destruction from supernovas, but at least black holes could be in the game where you shouldn’t warp to…or else…unless you maybe have fitted something special to your ship…
Or minable comets that venture from system to system.
Or temporary gate failures and new short range jumpdrives with a high fuel cost to be able to jump to the next system on your own to avoid a defective gate or counter waiting gankers.
For the snow effect, the old ‘system wide’ graphics for Winter Nexus event didn’t have a horizon and looked pretty good, even though the snow effect was kinda lost in some systems due to the massive amount of background stars…
Personally I think any system graphic effect that includes a horizon should be limited to specific secluded pockets within that system, with each type of pocket having different unique graphics…
The old Cosmos missions use to do that a lot… For example:
And the graphics in those sites weren’t static, they were alive with movement, like various lighting strikes flashing at different times, twisters swirling around, etc…
In scenes shown above, that appears to be 2 mesh planes ( floor and ceiling ) unfortunately there is no way a simple texture edit would fix it. Assuming you could make the fog texture an alpha transparent, it would still could end up rendering the cyclone pillars.
I noticed the sun in most systems have lens flare spikes, again removing them would not be about a texture but a post processing effect. Unless someone knows how to remove the effects using their GPU card’s driver program, it appears you are at the mercy of Fenris.
The real issue here is too many players who want cool looking scenes and simply don’t understand the laws of physics, I imagine some of those people work at Fenris. I am not calling them simple or ignorant, They just don’t understand how this affects players who know better.
Have fun!
