Captain’s Log: 001

I wanted to start this off by saying hello, to whoever receives this, if anyone does. I was told to make captain’s logs to document my journey and possibly provide myself with a little entertainment. Over the past few days I have left my home planet to finally become what I have always wanted to be, a journalist who flies around the stars documenting battles and conflict.
I obviously still have so much to learn in terms of space travel and journalism but I have my foot in the door. Whenever I am not doing basic exploration to get myself more use to controls of my ship, I have been exploring nearby systems close to my home with a large amount of ships destroyed. So far Amamake has been an amazing target of mine, I can’t tell if a grand story is there or if it’s just a common place for squabbles but I will be frequenting it.
Besides these more long-form captain’s logs I do have a physical journal I am filling out with daily events, specific people I am interested in, and factions that stand out. That way I can follow up on them in a couple days and see what they’ve been up to. Besides current conflicts I realized I have been so sheltered on my home planet, little did I know about these giant wars taking place in space, so I have happily jumped down the rabbit hole. Exploring specific wars, their outcomes, and how they started. I am hoping all this information, while fun to learn about, will help me in the future to be in the middle of conflict with pencil in hand and ship cloaked!
That’s it for now, I’ll see how often I upload these captain’s logs. This one is more of an introduction, I’m hoping in the future they will be more full of events I have logged and conflict I am following.

I may have to admit it took me a few ships to realize I have access to a cloaking device, but if anything that helped me learn to pilot and be more fearful, which can’t be a bad thing. Right?.. I don’t know why I am asking myself. Either way, I have been busy; still no major story on my horizon, but the thrill of exploration and getting the taste of my first real battle has me excited for more.
Let me start this off by logging my cloaking experience, because it went exactly as some of the higher-ups from back home would guess. I always thought technology to completely hide your ship was nightmare fuel told to the littles to stop the tears and bring sleep even faster, but it turns out I am the fool. After experimenting with it for a few jumps, I decided to fit my cheapest ship with a prototype cloaking device and finally go scout out a battle. I saw on my map that Bei was popular recently in terms of ship loss, so I would go scope it out and see. Warping in about 100km (I’ve been told this is a safe distance), I instantly activate my cloak and start puttering in the opposite direction. I’ve already been rushing once I warp in, so I know some people will try and de-cloak me, but the fool this time is them: I am gone, a ghost in this new battle field waiting to absorb all the information I can.
As soon as I see the two pilots zoom past me, I am in the clear. I quickly start browsing the action, seeing what factions may be involved, what type of ships are going at it, and which are in the out skirts of the battle, but I notice something… My own ship seems to have taken some damage. This isn’t correct. I quickly go back to focusing on my ship and realize the mistake: in my excitement to try out this new device, I quickly mashed my cloak button, turning it on and then off instantly. I had been a sitting duck the entire time.
After jumping back awake in a new clone at my home base, I couldn’t help but laugh; I probably spent the next 10 minutes reflecting and laughing at myself. As silly of an adventure as that was, I did learn a lot. My ship served its purpose, and we are ready to go back for more.
To whom receives this,
