Exactly how many alts vs original characters? None can tell so that point is moot. No need to even take it into consideration.
Okay. So according to you the pool of players is shrinking… how long has it been shrinking for? Some people have been saying “EvE is dying” for more than a decade now.
Is EvE going to be dying for 200 years because that’s not a death, it’s a very long fruitful life.
There is a promotion currently available that offers amongst other things the GENOLUTION ‘AURORAL’ AU-79 IMPLANT. An item only previously available as part of the second decade collector’s edition. As a purchaser with one of these collector’s editions, and a pilot with the implant installed, I feel a little sad that a previously limited-edition item is being watered down instead of a new collector’s item being produced.
The new implants are not even named differently to the supposedly exclusive items originally produced.
If a new collector’s item had been produced, the fans who previously spent money on auroral implants would have a reason to buy it rather than not spend money and feel cheated.
This act is in my opinion both undercuts the old guard and undercuts the value of any future releases labeled as exclusive.
I believe this promotion is a flawed marketing move from CCP, as it generates some money in the short term but creates an image of bad faith and taints any future “exclusive” releases.
Dont get me wrong, id buy the other new collectors items, but I already have a OG implant, this promotion is robbing CCP of some revenue as they are just side lining some of there oldest customers, im put off buying the pack as its an insult to my past purchase.
I can understand not caring if you have it or not, I’m just bummed they made something largely unique to old eve less special, rather than add something new.
I always got a burst of nostalgia when I saw a gold pod, knowing that person has been playing for as long or longer than me, and they bought one of the set number of special editions at fan fest, maybe I even met them face to face, and seeing them flying around new Eden was a testament to the games longevity. But now … the meaning of a gold pod is forever changed, now it means you paid for a shiny pod.
Limited Edition is not the same as exclusive…especially if a product can be recreated.
I have a special limited edition copy of Tiberian Sun. It is rare and worth a bit, in its original box. Nobody can or ever will produce more…and that guarantees its value.
On the other hand…I can recall when Nestlé produced a special ‘limited edition’ of orange flavour Kit Kat. Hard to get hold of. It was supposed to be a one off and the supply soon ran out. But they did this ‘one off’ again a year later. And again. And now its available all the time. But somehow I don’t think if I had an original ‘limited edition’ one I could justifiably claim ’ you said this was limited edition so why isnt my Kit Kat rare any more ?'.
I dont usually care about such things but in the old days, i did ,like many have a hanger full of old rare things that could no longer be found in game ( still have a lot even though ccp occasionally and randomly delete them from the game ) , and like many i was less than pleased when ccp started to reissue 1 time available items to any one that wanted to buy them.
one of the things that stings the most among many for example is the reissue of the apotheosis, a one time issue of a ship model for eves 5th birthday in 2008, everyone online then got one and none more would be issued. that is untill someone in ccp decided to give them out like candy to anyone that gave them rl coin after the summer of rage. since then nothing has been sacrosanct from reissue.
is it so hard to just change the item number in the item database so the original thing is left alone and the new one dated to the change. im not looking at snowballs at alll, nope not at alll.
You should not be playing a game unless you can be sure there are no smart university graduates in charge of it. There is another game that marketed itself as not pay to win to build goodwill and hype, then when they released the beta, they just scrubbed their social medias of all these promises, because it was actually pay to win.
This kind of actions is the work of smart university graduates. They think they are so smart!
In this case they probably thought they were being smart because not having to spend any energy on coming up with a new item.
Why do i bring this up? Read CCP Auroras response to one of the feedbacks. It seems like she is treating EVE online as some kind of school group work assignment.
I never mentioned EVE is dying, but there’s a reason for previously limited edition items suddenly being put up for sale, and it’s not out of the goodness of their hearts.
Anyway, as you’re obviously trolling in so many threads you’re on permanent ignore, enjoy the game.
Why wouldn’t it be out of the goodness of their hearts? Just because they’re in business doesn’t mean they’re incapable of offering gifts to their customers. Do you know how much it cost CCP to offer every player a 7-day Omega deal for free?
How many players said 'thank you?"
I don’t troll and I’m sorry you think so. Although you won’t be missed. There’s plenty of forum members left to share with.
But that would equally have applied when the total player count was smaller. Even when the traffic was below 20K, I still saw ( right here on this forum ) people claiming most of that was alts.
I thought about buying this since I sold mine the first time round.
But then I said nah. when I see my pod…
I don’t see it with combat overview setup. and I am usually thinking oh crap…clear pod. Usually good about it. Sunday I apparently didn’t want those training implants on the militia char anymore. I hosed that one being slow and stupid, I’ll own it.
It’s so funny to see people get all angry and raging about how something THEY bought a long time ago, it’s not like it was an achievement or anything, is now for others to also buy and enjoy. Almost sounds like the typical carebear crying, it’s just as egocentric.
