we got them for free with the 10th anniversay, this year is the 20th and you have to pay for them…at the 30 yr mark if we make it that far, these items prolly wont even get looked at for distribution.

The difference between you and me is that I own countless highly valuable and extremely rare digital items (including a golden pod, which defines my sexual identity) and you own basics skins they give out for free to the poor, so you can switch the color of your ship from light brown to poo brown to display your social status in the world of EVE to others.
The “I just shoot space ships” is just a lame excuse of people who completely failed in the current collectable meta.
This is basically my retirement fund. Once Hilmar converts all my rare digital valuables into NFTs, I can cash out and buy a real space ship to Mars

I’ve had my golden pod skin for ten years since buying the special edition. That means I’ve also lost any sort of benefit from the DUST 514 skins, the Templar Mk. II that never even made it into Valkyrie, the Gnosis ships that they’ve since handed out like free candy, and the mystery pass that they stopped supporting. Yeah it sucks that theres not much to show off anymore to signal that you’ve been a long time player that chose to support the company back then… Wanting something for your character is completely understandable. Grabbing up these digital items to sit on them like an NFT for a decade to play the economy then freaking out when you lose that gamble? Ehh. I could honestly care less.

I had no intention of buying this until I read your post. I’m not sure if I should thank you or cuss you 
Materialism and nostalgia are for losers and suckers but I’m still a vapid, sentimental slave to my fashion. I’ve made peace with the fact that my ego makes up part of the wider tapestry of the masses but individual aesthetics helps color that tapestry to prevent us from becoming undifferentiated consumers to be processed like cattle.
At least, thats what I tell myself, I’m not a monk and getting enough shrooms for ego death is too expensive. The truth is EVE at its core is the story of your character in the wider world and one of the easiest ways to communicate what your guy is all about at a glance is cosmetics. So I’ll never get the cosmetic monkey off my back.
Yeah. I was mulling over my word choice there and if that would peeve anyone off. But like. I think it works still. Some marginal part of me cares and could probably empathize if I wanted to, but its not worth the effort getting bent outta shape over. I care some but way too little to do anything about it.
