It’s a handicap for the best players like me. In the newbro tutorial zone, known as nullsec, people have all the time they need to kill a target - they can bring as many people as they want and just relax, peacefully dropping a hundred Marauders on a barge. However, in Highsec, the ganker has mere seconds to kill the target, and their ship automatically explodes! So it provides a challenge for skilled players, allowing the best players to enjoy endgame content in Highsec.

Everything in this game, from space ship battles to dominating markets is player run, and against other players.
Some activities even pit groups of players against other players.
Selling PVE loot on the market and trying to entice people to buy your stuff by undercutting someone elses sell price is player vs player.
